Basically, I'd like everyones opinion on which they think is better, cable or dsl. I've had both and right now I'm not quite sure which I prefer. They'll both end up being about the same amount price wise because I'll need a phone line with the dsl.

I have DSL, and I love it because it's so fast. I've never had Cable and I will NEVER have dial-up again eveeeeeeeeer!!!

Cable is generally a lot faster than any DSL connection in my neck of the woods, but both are still way too slow to offer HD video downloads quickly, and while I'm not interested in that, I think we'll see it become the norm like mp3 downloads, within the next five years. At that point, the video rental store will really start to become obsolete.

I don't get cable here, so I have DSL. My general opinion is that cable seems to be a more steady connection? I'm not too sure on that. My DSL modem occassionaly goes stupid and needs restarting or it drops the connection once in a while.

My husband (my family-of-three's computer guy) SWEARS by Cable internet. He simply won't use anything else, because it's so noticably faster than DSL. :)

Cable is definitely faster than dsl. I have had cable in the past but have dsl now, mainly because it's cheaper. My computer right now is 2 floors below where the dsl modem/wireless router is and I ofter lose my internet connection and have to run up 2 flights of stairs to unlplug and plug back in the router, and that can be a real pain in the butt. We are supposed to be getting the Verizon Fios in our town by the end of the year so I'm holding out for that, otherwise I'd go back to cable with the modem going straight into my computer. So if you can afford the extra cost, cable is better for sure.

When I had cable, the source was about 5-10 miles way. With dsl, the source was about 10-15 miles away. I'm getting roughly the same speed.

Dial up sucks.

A computer guy I dated loves cable, wasn't a fan of DSL.

Last year we FINALLY had an alternative to dial up where I live, and that's DSL. I JUMPED on it and haven't had a problem with it. Speed is the same I think as my ex's cable. I do have the higher speed DSL option, but still?

I have DSL and I find it pretty fast. I can download at about 195Mb and still surf and stream comfortably.

Although the price is about the same I took the DSL because I could install it myself - just plug in the modem and plug into the phone jack. The cable company would only install themselves. So that means appointments, inconvenience yada yada.

What's people's experience with Roadrunner cable? Good? Bad? Indifferent? How about their customer service and tech support?

One thing I will never recommend is MSN DSL. Horrible tech support. They basically read off the manual that you have in your hand yourself! (In Orange County, CA)

SBC Yahoo had and still has wonderful customer service and tech support. Once AT&T joined in the service itself kinda goes kaput on you occasionally but still way better than MSN. (In Orange County, CA)

Insight cable was good too. Excellent customer service, good tech support and the service was unwavering. (In Springfield, IL)

I have Road Runner... here is my result from using the site Naturestee recommended (I don't know if this will go directly to my results...if not, I'll just write it all out).

Edited to add: ACK!! For some reason, I thought Naturestee had recommended the site...SORRY HALEY!! :(

My boyfriend is an avid gamer so he's obsessed with internet speed. I always hear him raving about roadrunner, about how great is is supposed to be and how he wishes they would come out here.

We have Comcast and its great IMO

I have never had RoadRunner and would never have it. I have had 2 friends and a family member have it and have used it at their house and it has always moved slow to me. Due to the problems I have heard from them, it doesn't seem worth it. When it storms here and your cable goes out, so does you internet, two weeks ago it rained, amazingly enough for about an hour. It was not a bad storm at all. My friends cable went out, they have the whole RR package - TV, Internet and Phone. They called on a cell and told RR it was all out and needed to be fixed, it took them 5 days to come out and get it taken care of. I have heard the same complaint from everyone I know with RR. If you need to use your internet here in NC everyday then you do not have RR. Most people have AT&T DSL, it comes in 3 or 4 speeds and so you can find what fits your needs and price range. I am not saying that RoadRunner is like this everywhere but I know that here they are not quick about getting you up and going. We have had DSL about 2 years now and have never been without internet for more than one day.
