You know how cable is switching over to that box thing? Yeah, I think it's stupid. Anyway, here's a rabbit that can explain it for those of you who don't know what's going on. :p

EEE! I'll have to send that one to my parents. They bought a whole new roof antennae setup for the digital switch.

Me, I have satellite... when it works. grr

Too cute!

The tv in my bedroom is not connected to cable, and it's really old so it won't get the new digital signal. Don't really feel like buying the converter box for it, though. *sigh*

Cable in the living room, so no problem there.
Oh, and it's not cable that's switching, it's over-the-air signal.

I don't have cable, so I never listened to them talk about it. We just don't want cable, because we never have time to do anything as it is. We didn't even use the "rabbit ear" antennae. I think we used them twice in a year. Both were football games. Other than that, we just check the scores out online.

My parents had an extra "$40 off" coupon and gave it to us. They had all of their TVs covered. We have two TVs in our apartment, but only one TV will have a box. We can't get in the basic channels anyway. :p We won't use it until we actually decide to watch basic cable. Meh...

Make sure you check the expiration date on the $40 off coupon. The gov allotted a set amount of $$ for those, and sent out coupons until they ran out of money. Now there's lots of people on a waiting list. If your coupon expires without being used, a coupon will be sent out to someone on the waiting list.

According to what I've heard, the digital signal is stronger and clearer than the old analog signal. You may get more local channels with the box, or the channels you get should be clearer. I've also heard that the digital signal will allow stations to broadcast more than one channel over the same signal, so your local station could, conceivably, broadcast sports or and other programming at the same time, over the same signal, to different channels.

(My NPR station has some local programs that I listen to while I'm at work. One of them has a monthly visit from the tv critic from the local paper, and he's talked about this switchover every single time since it was first announced. I'm glad the switch will happen soon, so they can stop announcing it!
I think Obama wanted to delay it, to give people more time to get their boxes, but I don't know if that will happen. Hawaii has already switched over to the digital signal, a month ahead of everyone else.)

LOL! Love the picture!!!

And now I know where i know the word 'Switcheroo' from. I so nearly typed it in a post the other day but then I stopped because I realised it would be copying someone but I couldn't think who! :p

I call all TV cable, pretty much. The antennae ones are "basic cable" to me. Why does everyone need a box, then? My parents needed one and their flat screen is only 2 years old.

Not *everyone* needs a box. I would have assumed that flat screens would be new enough to be digital-ready, but I guess it depends on the brand/model of tv. Your parents should check their owner's manual, if they still have it.

Or, here's a link to the thing on DTVTransition.org that will tell you if the tv is digital-ready, you just have to enter the brand and model.

Also, anyone that gets tv through a pay service (cable or satellite), does *not* need a box. (Unless they have a tv that is not connected to the cable/satellite.)
