Hey, I was wondering if anyone bought their hay online. I'm so sick of paying like 9 dollars for a bag of hay that might weigh at max two pounds.

My family owns horses, so i KNOW hay doesnt cost that much. I would just go get it from the barn but i'm at school now so I can't regularly. I live in a city and we dont have any feed stores.

The actual cost online is cheap, but the shipping is insane. Does anyone have a good site?

Rather than buy it online and have it shipped in the mail, why not just have your family stuff a few flakes in a big bag (buy a sturdy duffel bag for that purpose) or a big box and mail that off every few weeks? It will cut down on how much pet store bags you'll need, and its probably more interesting hay. The postage will be less than what the online store will charge and you can get the hay for free.

I can't imagine anybody buying pet store bags of hay, it wouldn't get my six guys through the day. And they don't like it as much. I buy 150 lbs at a time.

For the money its even worth finding an equestrian center or a zoo and offering them $5 to fill a garbage bag full (or a rubber container or a canvas bag or whatever you can transport).

are you feeding one critter.??..if the field grasses are-not-treated--start cutting...sincerely james waller:wave::rose:

Yeah, if anyone in your family can spare you some hay for a few bucks I'm sure you've recouped their cost for them! That would be ideal

If you're like me, stuck in a place with no easy access to a hay source, buying online in BULK is the next best thing. Just make sure you have space to store as much as you'll buy.

Shipping depends on where in the country you are relative to the source of the hay. But honestly, not by a whole heck of a lot. Buying MORE at a time will definitely give you more bang per buck, per pound of hay.

Me? I have been ordering hay from Kleenmama's Hay loft. http://www.kmshayloft.com/So far, been very satisfied. My buns love the hay and have been eating more hay than ever before. They are located on the west I believe.

You may also find that there are smaller pet stores near you willing to custom order a big shipment of hay (25lbs, 30, 40, 50 lbs at a time usually). I have found that doing this doesn't necessarily save me any money, but helps me build a constant rapport with a nice pet store.

Santa Cruz? Is that near San Jose? There are tons of bunny friendly pet shops and and around San Jose that I know of. I think I actually landed myself here (website says they are actually in Santa Cruz)one time and it was this huge place, and I saw a 50LB box of Oxbow timothy hay right there in-store. http://www.westcoastpetsupply.com/

Kleenmamas hay is nice!
But, being on the west side of the States (Wash.),the shipping costs are a bit too much for me.
It might be more affordable for you though.

I've been buying from Sweet Meadows Farm.
They're on the east coast (Mass.).
I buy their Classic Timothy Hay...30 lb bulk...and pay a little over $30 including shipping.
They ship it Fed Ex so I can order it and have it deliveredwithin a few days.
The buns LOVE it!!!

Put a flake of hay in a duffle bag or empty grain bag and keep it under your bed. That's what I do and I have horses as well.
