Over the weekend my husband and I built a bunny pen in the basement for our angora babies as I do not want them to be raised outside and he has been so busy at work that he hasn't been able to take the time to build the nice cages. So we built a nice pen for them and they are learning to use a litter box. They have all gotten very good about peeing in the boxes, but still leave poops all over the place. I have been sweeping up poops twice a day and putting them in the litter boxes hoping they get the right idea. Until now I have never had a litter box for a bunny before. They are so much fun to watch play in there though! The little furries are 6 weeks old now.

So what do you guys think of the bunny pen?

It's about a 9x10 foot area. Scott was saying the other night that he might feel guilty building the cages and putting them in cages now. :p

My only concern is the poops they keep depositing all over- when they mature, if they don't do most of their poops in the boxes it will be very difficult to keep their wool clean.

Fantastic :D I'd rehome to that setup no problem :D

WOW! That pen is fantastic. Makes me feel quite insecure about my own.

Personally, though, I've found that big cat litter boxes work better than the corner ones.

That's a really nice setup for the bunnies. As they get bigger I'd go with the cat litter boxes also and you can put their hay in there too. When they get spayed/neutered their litterbox habits will improve greatly.

Thats a really nice cage. I just finished my NIC cage it's 4x5. Your bunnies are still little. Once there bigger there litter habit's should improve. You can also try making it smaller and gradually make it bigger as there litter box habit's improve.

as everyone else is saying, that is huge! nice work. I'm sure they are loving the freedom

I'm pretty new to this but my only concern is that floor... it looks like cement? I'm not sure what your climate is like there but it might be cold, and also a bit slippery. so maybe they could do with some more towels or blankets on the floor... apart from that it looks like fun!

My basement run is 7 X 12. However my bunniesget 2 to 4 hours a day to play there. Then I return them to their cages for the night. They will use the litter boxes for pee, but poop everywhere, so I have to sweep up daily.

Cement floors are OK, alittle cooler and not as slippery as tiled floors. The only problem is pee stains will look really bad on the concrete. I have always used carpet tilesor mats over the basement floor that I can throw way once they get too dirty.

Nice! :)

For such large pens and multiple bunnies, try to see if you can find a secondhand pet store cage. I use the bottom of the petstore cage as a litterbox, and it works out awesome. Since my trio always poops together, I needed a huge litterbox for them! Then with the top, you canhave it as a hidey spot byput cardboard ontop with a towel and use it as a cave.. excellent way to use an old pet store cage that the rabbits just adore! I used my old 18 x 30 Super pet delux for this and it works great.

I use my cage bottomto put the waterbowl, food, hay, and a corner litter boxin. This way I don't get hay all over the place. I was thinking of using a second cage bottom to put sand in for asand box.

I haven't thought of using the cage top. However they open from the top.

I do leave pet carriers in the run for their hidey holes though.
