Hi all

Okay so I have 5 rescues the oldest of which I have had for 3 years and she is my only girl.
My girl and 2 boys are all bonded and get along great and are aloud the run of the place during the day while my other 2 boys who are bonded have the run of the place at night they were all litter trained at one time.
As I brought in each new bunny all the litter training went right down the old toilet. My 1 girl is still perfect in every way, but my boys are awful. I have tried putting their poos in the box, putting tons of hay in the boxes etc.
They each have their own cage with a litter box which they use when they are in their cage, and there are 3 litter boxes in the outer area for them. We use yesterdays news litter.

My carpet stinks to high heaven and I am ashamed to have company I simply can not take it anymore and I DO NOT want to have to give my babies up................any ideas would be great peeps.

Thanks
Dawn

Hey............I am asking about both cleaning the carpet and litter training.

Yes all my buns have been fixed all 4 boys and my 1 girl.

Thanks

I'm not sure about cleaning the carpets, except for using a steam cleaner or replacing the carpet. Sorry.

With the litter box training. I have a couple suggestions. Maybe you can just let one bunny out at a time. To see if it helps with the rabbit using the litter box. Or...... Give the rabbits a smaller area to run. Don't let them have the whole house.(Make area smaller)til they start using litter box. Soak up pee with paper towel and put in litter box.

Good Luck, :biggrin2:April

We live in a basement so the area is not really HUGE or anything.........they have the main room and the bathroom they are not allowed in our bedroom or laundry room.

I will try the paper towel thing that might help. I am not sure I can let them out one at a time, I have 5 so that might be quite time consuming, maybe I will give it a try though.

Thanks

It can be a temperary thing, letting them out one at a time. Til they start using the litter boxes. If they were trained before, I'm sure they can do it again.

I know it might be time consuming at first, but it will be worth it in the long run to keep all your buns. :)

First thing to do is buy yourself a large plastic tarp, and place it under the bunny play area.

Until all of them are properly litter-trained, you can't afford to let them roam unsupervised on the carpet. I would suggest that you limit their play area to only tarped over areas.

Unfortunately, you've got 4 bucks marking their territory. I've got a similar situation here, but have hardwood flooring that wipes clean easily.

At least they manage the litter tray while in the cage. I wouldn't put too much hope in having them litter trained outside of each one's respective territory (the cage).

If you tarp it, then you can at least protect your carpet; wipe clean regularly, and the stench will be lessened.

Tough scenario.

Yeah, tough scenerio for sure. I would suggest that you consider getting rid of the carpeting, if possible. I would also put a tarp or something on the floor over the area that they are peeing/pooping on.

Restricting space can sometimes help with litter training issues. I know you are not working with much space, but if you can manage it, setting up two separate bunny areas (so that each group has their own space) may help. Since you have two groups that are bonded, I don't think that letting each rabbit out singlely will help, but it is hard to know what goes on inside of their bunny brains sometimes. :?

How long have you had all 5 rabbits? The marking may subside after all rabbits get used to each other. Hard to know.

I use vinegar to clean up rabbit urine. Seems to work pretty well. A commercial enzyme odour remover (such as Natures Miracle) may also be helpful, although if you choose to use one of these products, I would research and choose your product carefully.

Good luck. I understand how frustrating this can be!
