So we just got Solara spayed.
Ii felt soooo bad when we brought her home. She looked sooo out of it and sickly.
Despite that, she's recovering it very well.
The past two days I have had to give her painkillers in a syringe and liquid form.
it's metacam, 1.5 mg/ml.
0.3 ml per 24 hours.
it's so hard to get her to take it, but she seems to love it when i get it in hermouth (its the kind that has one shot and all of it comes out at once). she doesn't try to spit it out, she licks her lips and bites and licks on the syringe to get every last drop!
has anyone else experienced their bunny liking the metacam or whatever painkillers you had to give him/her for pain after being spayed/neutered?

I believe that metacam is honey flavored....I'd like it too. How big is Solara? 0.3ml is a much larger dose than I've ever had prescribed.

o: i didn't know it was flavoured XD haha. no wonder she likes it!
solara is 4 lbs, 4 oz. :)

That dosage of metacam sounds awefully high for a 4 lb. rabbit. The largest dosage my vet has ever prescribed (for a 7 pound rabbit) is .2ml. Hopefully by now Solara is recovering and isn't in need of metacam anymore.

Really?
Hm.. That's weird.
That is weird the dosage is so high, but I guess all vets are different, and I trust this vet, because they fix lots of bunnies every day, (they're connected to a humane society) so they must know what they're doing XD. Solara doesn't seem too affected by the metacam, so it seems fine?
Oh well, today was her last dosage of metacam, and she's doing wonderful, she's already returning to her normal self <3

It might be a different concentration of the drug. If the drug you got is 1.5mg/ml, it might be lower than what other vets do. I don't know what the standard is though.

We have the 1.5ml suspension. Since Solara only had a few doses, I wouldn't be concerned. If she had to have it long term, then I would question the dosage since it could damage the kidneys.

I'm glad she's recoverying well!

They usually give a 'kick off' dose of Metacam that's twice the normal dose.

There's also a 12 hour protocol and a 24 hour protocol.

And considering it's for major surgery as opposed to arthritis or anything long term, I can see that dose being prescribed.

Pipp's prescription has been all over the map, so its something they're still experimenting with.

I did overdose her once, after a little dental work. She was very zonked out. But I don't recall if it was a .25 cc or a double dose at .5 cc. She's just two and a half lbs. So that's well within your range. I think I've settled on .125 every 12 hours.
