OK, so I'm a wimp. I'm terrified of trimming my rabbits' nails so I take them to the pet store to be done. I'm sure most of you trim your bunnies nails yourselves, can you give me some pointers? I'm so scared of hurting them or hitting the quick. The people at the pet store offered to show me how to do it especially because BunBun is sooo laid back but I haven't gotten the courage yet. I bought the nail clippers months ago but just can't do it.

Are they black or white nails? I think white nails are easier because you can see where the wick starts. Clip on a tiny bit each time until you get your desired length. It is harder to get the wick this way, in my opinion anways. The first couple of times I trimmed I had to go back like a week later and redo it cause they were still too long and it made me nervous, but just go by what you feel comfortable with, if you know it looks long by you are nervous that you will get too close, stop and put them away and try another day. Also, have blood stop on hand or even corn starch for those times that you get too close. :)

ask whoever has been trimming them to show you how--that's what I did. If the nails are dark it's a bit trickier. I clamp the clippers down on the nail lightly and if the bunny doesn't jerk their paw you aren't over the quick.

Maybe this video will help you. The rabbit in the video is my Skyler. He looks very calm... he's lying! He's anything but calm when it comes to nail clipping, but this technique does seem to work on him.

I don't recommend any newbie try doing it like that. I can't even do that. I have to hold the paw I'm going to clip and hold each nail out.

That is a really calm rabbit to allow that to be done to it, Jezz doesn't even let me touch her tummy without a fight so that isnt an option for her :p
