Hello everyone! I'd like to stop in and introduce myself. Bunny will be introduced following the weekend hopefully.

I've decided to get my grand daughter a bunny for Easter. I will be the caretaker of course, but hope to teach her that with everything comes responsibility and that her pet will depend on her for it's existence and life.

Which leads me to my dilemma. I'm very new to the world of rabbits and from raising and owning many different species of other animal, I don't trust the advice pet stores give so I'm seeking out the best source of information.....from actual keepers.

I've got the plans to construct a nice hutch for him, and a safe area to place it where it will get sunlight, but remain also partially shaded.

I've purchased some commercial food, until i could find what is the best source of nutrition for our new little one.

I'm curious if i'm on the right track, and if anyone could direct me to a good food i can buy locally. I'm also concerned about the typical pests that might bother him such as fleas.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi am Welcome to the forum.

I would like to say rabbits make great indoor pets.

They can be litter boxed trained and have great personalities. I would also think about getting a bunny from a rescue. They normally come already spayed and neutered and you know there personalities.

The rescue can match you up with the perfect bun if your willing to wait a little longer.

If you do think about a rescue bun. You could give your grand daughter a gift card to a certain rescue you choose. For one bun or even a bonded pair.

Hope this helps you and welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum! :welcome1

This is a good place to start. Check out the different threads for all the information available. I was a member on this forum for several months before I got and adopted my bunny. What other animals do you have?

Hi and welcome! :)

This is a great place to get all your information from before you get your bunny.

And reiterating what Mrs. PBJ said, rabbits make fantastic indoor pets, just like cats and dogs. They are very social animals and being inside makes it a lot easier to interact with them for many hours on a daily basis.

Another point I would make, is considering buying/building a run. This is so your rabbit can have a large, secure area outside in the garden to exercise and run. Many stores sell runs that a barely bigger than the bunny itself, so perhaps building one would be a better option?

This is the run my dad built my two buns a few years ago:

Let me welcome you to Rabbits Online, my name is Dave and I am a moderator on the forum. So if I can be of any help please let me know. This is a terrific website for rabbits and their slaves, not only is it very active but also friendly. I am so glad you’re here and I know you will enjoy it.

I am glad to hear that you know that it is really going to be your rabbit. Each rabbit has their own personality, some are meek and some are spunky. Rabbits go through the teen years around 4-6 months old. This can be considerablely shortened if the bunny is spayed or neutered, afterwhich the bunny's temperment will not be affected by hormones.

If you have a sick bunny, please post in The Infirmary and include your rabbit's age, breed and health history as well diet and output details leading up to the problem.

I have listed some links I thought you might find interesting:

*For reference the Library section

*To brag or tell everyone about the antics of your bunny or just to talk about your day here is where to start a Bunny Blog, you can also look back at it later and remember when you had a life before your bunny.

*Now all the bunny’s like talk to each other when we mere slaves aren’t around in the Bunny Chat is the spot to be.

*Rabbits Online also has regional forums , this a good way to find a vet in your area that has experience with rabbits and to find out from other nearby of good sources of rabbit supplies.

The Let Your Hare Down section is for anything non-bunny related.

Here is a link tothat will help you and your bunny to connect, How To Bond With Your Bunny.

Now every forum has rules and ours can be found with this link Rabbits Online Forum Rules. This gives guidelines on what is acceptable, what is not and how we hope everyone will treat each other.

Everyone on this forum loves to see pictures of each other’s bunnies. So if you would like to post a picture this link will help you do that, Upload Photo's to Photo Gallery.

I am glad you have joined rabbits online and I look forward to seeing you around. Please feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions.

Dave
