hey everyone,

i have a 2 year old female dwarf mix name annabelle. recently, i have noticed that she will be in her cage chewing away at something that if definitely not hay or other food. i've had the occasion a few times to squeeze it out of her mouth to find out what it is, and she's been eating her droppings...i am positive that they are not cecotrophes. i'm a relatively new rabbit owner and am wondering if this is a problem. she just had a vet check-up last week, and she was deemed perfectly healthy. she has a big appetite and eats the right amounts of fresh greens, timothy hay, and pellets with the occasional treat.

Some buns have a fettish for normal droppings. My buns dont particulary liek them but Jenni would chew some or eat some and drop it back out. I wouldn't worry about it

It's normal and ok. My Muffin does it sometimes. I would only worry if you're concerned about parasites, or if she eats A LOT of them.

thanks everyone for your advice. i was worried because i have heard that dogs and other animals can get sick from eating their own poop. wasn't sure if this applied to lagomorphs. she's munching away on some cucumber right now and seems to be doing fine. :bunnydance:
