I've noticed through reading forum posts here as well as from other sources that there seems to be some significance in choosing a certain colour buck to breed to a certain colour doe, rather than the other way around. I am just wondering what the significance is and why it is preferred for the buck to be a certain colour over the doe.

The only reason to prefer a buck of a certain color rather than a doe is because the buck is more likely to be bred to more individuals, while the doe may only ever have one mate. If you don't want to use too many rabbits in your program, it's good to get a buck with a color that's compatible to the most other colors you want to raise (so a black buck to breed to a black otter doe, a castor/chestnut doe, and a blue doe, possibly also a red doe or a tri-color doe, depending on whatever he carries).

There's no sex-linking in rabbit colors, if that's what you were asking.

Oh i see, thanks! I was just confused and didn't understand the reasoning behind having the buck be a certain colour in some situations. I thought maybe bucks have stronger genes or something like that. But it's pretty clear now, thanks Hillrise. ^.^
