Well, we went out for the afternoon/evening, and came home. Went to check on the rabbits, and Bubbles had one kit so far,and it was dead :( I tried warming it, and it didnt work. I think that she suffocated it. She was sitting on it when we got here. I feel so bad. Not sure if she just started or if she will only have one or if she had more.. and possibly ate them. As of now, Thumper hasnt had any. Still waiting.

She is doing well. We never found anymore kits. And I tried to feel her stomach but it feels like it is back to normal. So I am assuming there won't be anymore. I will try to rebreathe her in a couple days. I felt so bad for the kit we found lastnight though. I tried to warm in up and it didn't work.
Still waiting on thumper. It has been 33 days since breeding. So she had a couple more days yet. I did not count the day they were bred thoUgh as they were bred in the evening.

Sounds like that is all that she would have. We have had does that only had one dead kit before. Do you have a background on her? Like how old she is or how many times and how often you bred

Ya I will wait a while now. I felt so bad for the baby though. It was the cutest little thing. We ended up burying it. My husband thinks I am nuts. But I couldn't just throw it in the garbage bin. I will try again in the middle
Of August. Maybe I will leave her in my bucks cage longer.

We just bred a 7 month old baby in hopes of getting some nice show buns for the Kansas Convention. She is due any time now and I am hoping all goes well. She will be 8 mos by the time she has them. Last time we bred a 6mos old she had DOAs too. Waited a month or two and then she had 7 healthy babies and took care of them all

We normally breed three times wait 1-2 hours then let the buck breed 3 more times. Litter sizes vary because our breeds are different but we have had a lot of success with this way.

Oh I'm so sorry. :(

Ive read that it is completely normal for a first time mom to birth DOA 's.. i would wait a month and try again...i also read that breeders give their does 3 chances...not sure about that..I'm very sorry... :(

Hoping for more luck with Thumper...

Ya. It just doesn't feel right throwing them in the garbage. Gonna check on thumper as soon as we get home tonight. Hoping she has had healthy babies. She seems more motherly though.

Nothing. Maybe I was wrong when I saw babies moving. Oh well. I ended up re-breeding Bubbles this morning. I have read tons of articles saying that people have re-bred within a couple days. She seemed to accept pretty fast. I let them breed 3 times this time. Not just two.

As for Thumper. I will give her another couple days, as today is day 35 not including the day she was bred. So, If there isnt anything tonight, I will assume there is nothing there and take her to the vet tomorrow to make sure.

Ive read that too. Maybe in a few hours you could put her back in the bucks cage just to make sure?

I can only imagine how down you are, these werent even my bunnies and i'm down! *hugs*

Well,I guess what can a person do right? I am very sad about what happened, but at the same time, we cant dwell on it. We have to just move on and try again. But, if I end up with more dead kits, I am not sure I will even try again. I was looking at a purebred mini rex male, so maybe if this doesnt work with the next litter, I will try the pure mini rex. Otherwise, Bubbbles is doing fantastic. she is in great spirits and everything. She even accepted Speckles as soon as I put her in his hutch. She accepted him 3 times, then I took her out. Will head out there again in a half hour or so and try again.
