Does anyone know of a disease, other than VHD, that can cause unexplained death of rabbits. We have lost a few does, usually when the weather is warm. They usually have young litter, 1-2 weeks, or are pregnant. We have seen this problem primarily in our meat breeds, but recently lost a Holland Lop as well.

Any chance raccoons or cats are in the area? Toxoplasmosis can cause sudden deaths (from cat feces) and raccoon roundworm is a serious issue.

It could be heat stroke?
I lost a litter two weeks ago to heat stroke.
Whats the temparature in your area?

Mold toxins in the feed? Hm, pregnancy toxemia would be more random, unless they are all related.

I agree that necropsy is the best way to get an answer. I know it's not common (and not talked about in a pet forum much), but some breeders with more experience can actually do their own necropsy. However, you don't get microbiological or toxin information that way.
