broccoli slaw?

I had been feeding my bunns broccoli slaw but stopped after reading somewhere broccoli isn't all that good for them. The slaw is the stalks and little bits carrots thrown in. I buy it at the grocery store dry in a bag. I know the heads could give them diarrhea or belly ache. They won't eat that anyway. They love the slaw though. Broccoli just makes some bunnies gassy, thats why people say to feed it in moderation. Also carrots are high in sugar, so they're usually fed like a fruit treat. But as long as your buns aren't getting gassy from the broccoli; then its probably okay.

Plants in the brassica family (broccoli, cabbage, brussels sprouts, cauliflower) have been known to give some rabbits gas, but they're otherwise a "safe" veggie. I agree that carrots are very high in sugar (although the tops are a great choice) and should be fed sparingly. The broccoli slaw probably doesn't hurt them, but I'd recommend something leafier in the future.

Its not something they get a lot of. There's only little pieces of carrot in the slaw. We stick mostly to kale and romaine. Plus pellets and hay of course. Its just something different for variety. :happybunny:
