One of my flemish giant does is 2 years and three months. She has always been an excellent brood doe. I bred her tonight as it is still cool here for another three months. She seemed receptive at the outset- lifted her tail for four or five attempts on the bucks part but then ten minutes later started to bite him so I took her out. Now she is in her cage and won't let anyone touch her. She is obviously very angry.

1. Is she too old? This would be her third litter.

2. Odds the breeding was successful in that short of a time?

3. Did I mistake her behavior in the beginning? Maybe just surprised and not willing, maybe?

4. Can a doe be receptive and reject a buck within 10-15 minutes?

In my opinion she is not too old. She could be really pissed that you bred her or she just doesn't like the buck you chose. Happens. SHe could have been trying to tell him that she has had enough.

How many times did he actually "get" her? All it really takes is one time.

I have had a doe reject the buck before. She seemed receptive, but didn't like Duke. Which was a giant pain in the *** seeing as how I paid $75 for him, and another $25 for her purely so I could breed the two of them together! I never did get a litter out of that doe, and she's too old to breed for a first time litter now. :X

Well that is the pits.:shock2:Do you have another doe to breed him to?

With Dexterity, this is her third breeding and she has never been bred to another buck. Only this one. I like to do it that way cause it cuts down on potential problems.

And I admit- he is no Cary Grant in the manners department. He is actually a thug. And in retrospect I think she probably just objected to being mandhandled by him. He gets quite violent over the whole thing you know. He will bite and hold on to her scruff until he is done and falls off. And he always begins by grabbing her on the scruff and maybe that is just too painful for her.

I will take her out today now that she is all calmed down (she still hates my guts though-obviously blames me) and check her for more injuries. I didn't see anything last night but that does not mean he didn't puncture the skin.
