The gender fairy has struck again!

My two five-month-old Flemish rescues are not sisters.

I was wondering why Mister, my intact mini-rex male, was fighting with one of the 'girls' through the bars, I was chiding him for his lack of 'dating' skills... but the second time, I got very suspicious and flipped my big cocoa puff over and lo and behold, there was a donut instead of a taco. At least he doesn't have any other boy parts yet.

I'm just not set up for this, at least not yet. I let him run around my living room, I don't have another pen, and all the other rabbits started fighting with each other. So now he's back on the porch with his sister. I'll figure out how to separate them later today.

I saw a bit of mounting behavior, but he doesn't have his bunny balls and the girl wants no part of it. I don't think either are old enough to be spayed or neutered, really hope they're not old enough to breed!

Aren't Flemish slow developers?

sas :p

Yes, they are slower developing than other breeds. But his "Boy Parts" will drop soon. Very soon. And he technically can "breed" before they drop. (And keep in mind that they can "pull them back up", so they could have dropped and you just didn't "see" them.)

She probably isn't ready yet, but mounting behavior can bring her "in" faster. The girls can breed at 6 months, the recommended age is 9-12 months. So I'm afraid my advice is to find some way to separate them... If I was closer I'd take them for you...

Suggested age for Spaying/Neutering is 6-7 months... It's a tough time those last 2 months! If it's critical, he can be done earlier.

They are very, very pretty! Awwww... you've been smitten with the Flemish bug! LOL! (Told you so!)

Okay, scratch that. I just checked the other one. They're BOTH boys. :foreheadsmack:

And I think they already have their testicles.

So now the question is can I leave them together for another couple of days until I can get them in for neutering?

sas :baghead

Yes, you can leave them together for a little while, as long as they are not fighting. If the space is big enough that they can each have their own "corner", they should be fine!

LOL! Whacked by the Gender Fairy, eh?

Wait - in some computer games my avatar is "Flemmie Mama" - so I would get them....

if I could - and Art wouldn't shoot me - I'd take em too - not for breeding - but just cause I love flemmies so much.
