I saw this on another forum and thought it would be really neat to do, and I think other members would enjoy seeing what our breeders here are striving for.

You can post both short & long term goals. Short term goals might be things such as winning something at a local show, breeding to a certain standard, improving something in your herd, etc. and Long term might be things like winning at a national show, or even convention, and other rabbit related things!

My Short Term Goals:

1. To have a rabbit that I've bred win BOB/BOSB at an ARBA sanctioned show (instead of a 4-H show, lol.)

2. To have several rabbits I've bred get a leg at an ARBA sanctioned show.

3. To improve coat and HQ's in my stock; as well as shoulders.

My Long Term Goals:

1. To attend National Convention in 2010

2. To attend Mini Rex Nationals sometime before I get out of Mini Rex (for college purposes)

3. To get a larger market for REW Mini Rex

4. To become known for having quality REW Mini Rex

5. To have a rabbit from my lines win BOB (or even BIS) at a National show.

6. To have a rabbit from my lines win BIS at a local show. (Kind of both short/long term)

I guess I could also say remodel my rabbitry would be a short term goal, because I'm working on it and it will be an ongoing project. ;)

Of course, these are just my goals (and only some); I have no clue what my sister's goals for our rabbitry are. lol. I think I tend to think of the goals for the rabbitry the most. lol.

So, share away!

What an AWESOME thread idea...I love it.

I'm going to share some goals off the top of my head - but I will probably add to this thread later on...

SHORT TERM GOALS:

  • Stop pacing until Athena has her babies next week and just ENJOY watching her change and grow and become ready to be a mama (she's already got her nestbox and is so happy).
  • Decide on future breeding goals (as in - do I want to "play" with steel? how much do I want to work with black? how much do I want to work with white?)
  • Get my pedigrees in order and on the computer
  • Get the list of upcoming shows I want to attend in 2010 in my datebook and budgeted for (I'm still debating about going to Killeen this coming weekend because Athena is due on Wed/Thurs and I'm not sure that I can bring myself to leave her alone for 20 hours or so)
  • Get my website up & running
  • Get my signs made for shows (I know of someone I want to use to do them...I think)
  • Get a couple more outdoor dog kennels so that more rabbits can play outside at one time
MID TERM GOALS:

  • Have a "home-grown" rabbit from my breedings take BOB at a local show (local meaning within the 5-6 hour range that I drive)
  • Have a "home-grown" rabbit take best in variety when up against the breeder I got my rabbits from (that will be VERY tough)
  • Have a "home-grown" rabbit place in flemish giant nationals at some point
LONG TERM GOALS:

  • Get bunny barn built
  • Become established as a "flemish breeder" that is respected by other flemish breeders (hard to explain because it isn't always based upon wins as it is upon other things)
Wow - a lot there to think about - and I'm not even done thinking about it!

My Short Term Goals:

1. I'd like to get my first leg on a homebred rabbit. Tough, considering the competition for Hollands in my area!

2.Improve shoulders and crowns in my Hollands.

3. Improve HQ's in my woolies.

-----

My Long Term Goals:

1. To win a BOB at an ARBA sanctioned show, with either of my breeds.

2.Attend the National Convention, sometime in the near future! It's supposedly coming back to PA, hopefully in the next 3-5 years!

3. Improve the type on my sable point Hollands. Get a competitive line going.

4. Attend Holland Nationals again sometime soon.

5.And of course, a BOB/BIS at a national show!;)

To get the best possible livestock, to be able to compete with the best at any show I attend....but in the end having healthy, strong rabbits.

This is becoming harder to do, because as I continue breeding, these things keep happening for me... I won BOB with my blue Sr. Buck at a Convention this year. I now have 3 BIS and 1 RIS, all ARBA shows, and big ones, too. It feels great, having those long term goals come to fruition. Really REALLY makes you feel like you're doing something right.

My goals are:

-Continue doing well at shows.

-Put a BIS on a Homebred rabbit.

-Improve the front boot depth of color on my Himalayans.

-Continue to improve the breed and lengthen those bodies and get rid of hippy-ness.

-CULL. HARD. I have less than fantastic animals and I need to get better about keeping these guys around.

-Get a few FW for commercial purposes

-Become more consistent in the rabbits I produce.

-Get a barn built

-Continue to be nationally competitive with my rabbits and become a well respected breeder within the community.

-REGISTRARS LISCENSE. I am less than a year away from being able to request an application. From there, I'll work on my judges liscense. :)

Short Term:

1.Get better barn built for my rabbits

2. Get a championship(3 legs) on a homebred- Syd got one leg for me already

3. Bring in more Velveteen lops and expand the breeding program for better rabbits

4. bring in new Dutch lines to continue my dutch(Chin's soon too)

Long Term:

1. Add Red and White New Zelands for show and meat

2. Go to Nationals and do well

3. Go to National Dutch and get a BIS , and/or BRIS

4. Get married to a man that cares!! LOL not rabbit related

DEFINITELY rabbit related - I can't imagine being married to someone who doesn't care about rabbits or at least understands MY feelings about rabbits..

What a great thread!

Short term Goals:

Updatemy pedigree books.
Put a Blue Flemish giant on the table that can win Best of Breed... (OK, this might be long term!)
Interest more Breeders to work with the Blues.
Improve my Silver Fox lines.

Long Term Goals:

Continue working on the Blues to improve them...
Get the funds to run water out to my barn (so I don't have to carry it all winter long).
Eventually move off the Island, and have a bigger barn... and get self-cleaning cages!

O geez... well... I must say- I now have a Red New Zealand Doe that has Grand Championed!!! (well, she has 5 legs now) That's been a goal for a really, really long time.

Short term- keep up my percentage on BOB or BOS wins (currently 58%) at each show I attend. Get atleast one BIS during spring shows. Be in the top 20 white sweepstakes standings. Top 10 reds.

Long term-

1. Develope good broken reds.

2. Make people look twice at buying a rabbit w/o being bred "crawford" on both sides.

Lets see here....

Get a third leg on my homebred doe that has 2 already... for my first homebred GC.

Get a nice doe to go with my really nice little otter MR.

Breed nice babies for Holland Nationals '10.

Attend Holland Nationals '10.

Get a better bunny barn.

Get a better cage system...

Breed a litter that is solid TCR Lines....

That's about all I can think of. :D
