Hey guys!

I've never exactly thought about it, but thought I would ask the question in case I was being paranoid.

I have always been sure to only give my buns boxes that had colored cardboard on them, and not stickers that were shiny/slick (because I was under the impression that them being like that meant that it had a thin film of plastic on top). I wouldn't be so worried, except that it happens the be the first (and, of course, most important) place to chew in Maisie's universe. (Haven't had any experience with Flower on it, because I'd already been being careful about what kind of box I was giving them by the time Flower came along.)

Is this impression true? Do I have to worry about Maisie eating cardboard that is slick? Does it indeed have a film of plastic that she shouldn't eat? Or am I being paranoid?

Another thing...Maisie goes for the tape on a box after she goes for the shiny sticker parts. Is this also something to worry about?

Could she die from eating these things, or am I being paranoid?

I just ask because I see some people on the forum giving their bunnies the same kind of boxes that I have to keep away from mine. Does that mean your buns keep away from the tape and shiny parts, and thus, you don't have to worry?

Thanks, guys! I just wanted to know for a fact either way, just in case this opens up a whole new world of boxes for my babies. :)

I don't understand, I give my girls pop-boxes (like the coke-fridge mate, PERFECT size for a mini-rex hiding spot!!) should I not be doing that?

or are you talking about things you've done to the cardboard boxes (like putting stickers on them) ?

Nes.

It's not a big issue unless they are eating huge amounts. Most of the boxes I give my buns are plain cardboard, except for the long soda can boxes. Those things rock!

I just avoid giving cardboard chewers any cardboard. Luckily only Spice is like that, he will eat a paper towel roll in 15 minutes.:thud

Zoey and Mocha on the other hand, they only nibble. Well, Zoey tares it apart but she doesn't eat it.

Personally, I worry about all the ink on some boxes as well as labels, I try to give ones with as little on the box as possible and I remove all tape that may be on the box. Call me paraoid but that's me.

I agree that if your rabbits are not eating a lot of it, it's not a big concern. But there is a worry that bunnies who really like to eat cardboard could get a blockage from it, so be careful.

Maisie is a HUGE cardboard box chewer. I've always been giving her Capri Sun boxes, but those might in fact have the plastic coating for print that I've been talking about.

I'm not talking about my doing anything to them after receiving them...I mean what they printed on to make the print on the box. Some boxes seem to have a very thin plastic-ish coating (I guess to make it look better).

I guess I'll just keep being careful about the ones I give her, and only give her ones that are PURE cardboard, with no smooth coating on the outside. I also make sure to take off any tape and any glue just to be sure. :)

Thanks, guys! I wasn't sure if I was being paranoid, or what! LOL!! Never can be too sure with these babies, I tell ya!! :)
