Hey!
I was wondering what everyone's opinion is on bonding. Is it easier to bond opposite genders together?

I currently have a Female Lionhead, she is NOT fixed yet but will be soon! Should I be considering a Male Bunny or a Female Bunny to bond with her? If the bond does not work, it doesn't matter! :) I have plenty of room and time for another Bun.

So Male or Female? And whats your reason!

From what I've gleaned from everyone here the best bonds (of unrelated buns) seem to be male/female. I have two sister buns that are very bonded so far. The breeder said they were bonded & it is better to have two buns to keep each other company so I took them both! lol She thought my Hope who I think was the runt of the litter would be better staying with her sister, Faith. Hope is shyer with people but very inquisitive. She is the one to go out exploring & find trouble! lol Faith is friendlier & more accepting of petting. Hope is also a bit skiddish being easily frightened.

I think most members here recommend bunny dates with prospective "mates' so that their bun can decide which buns he/she likes & gets along with them. Hope some of this post is helpful!

Thanks for the advice! Maybe a Bun play date is in order... hopefully I can get Chive fixed ASAP :thumbup

I keep finding all these lovely Buns on Kijiji...I should really just stay off that site haha.

Yes, it is hard to resist these buns! lol They are like potato chips hard to have just one! lol Of course, I am a pushover for any animal in need of a loving home, only my finances brings reality to keep me in check with my "pets." Yes, I have a bunny addiction & need help from Bunnies Anonymous!

Hope after a couple of months being "fixed," if you & Chive are still interested in Chive a "mate," you will be able to find her a good mate of her choice!

Thanks!

Haha I am the same way. Love my little animal family! Finances are what holds me back as well. I do want a second Bunny however! And hopefully I can find the right fit. I wish the shelters around here fixed their bunnies! Most don't, and the few rescues I know of charge and arm and a leg for adoptions...ugh.

They might charge a lot more, but you have to factor in the cost of the neuter that you'll have to get done yourself if you don't adopt from them. So it really depends how much neutering costs in your area. :)

Fixing is between $60-$100 depending on age and size of the rabbit. Which is why I really don't want to pay $150 for a Bunny from a rescue! Even though I would be rescuing...

It's always a tough decision! It seems my Shelter doesn't even have Bunnies...

Typically a neutered male would be the preferred choice for a spayed girl. But the bunny dates will help determine that moreso. Remember you'll need to wait a good month (2 would be better) after her spay before trying to bond her. Give those hormones time to dissipate fully.
