Heather emailed me information about these bonded rabbits. I am cross posting for her. Can anyone who have kind hearted to take these bonded pairs.
Mary Cvetan, from the Pittsburgh House Rabbit Club, sent an email out looking for fosters for these guys (a mutual aquaintance forwarded it to me). There is a woman named Wendy, the bunnie's owner, who is going through a divorce. She's got 4 dogs and 5 cats, and so for whatever reason cannot keep her two bunnies. Wendy is looking for "temporary" fostering until Thanksgiving, though when I spoke to her on the phone and met Wendy, I was under the impression she would be very happy to never see these bunnies again.....she spent more time telling me about how she just doesn't have time for bunnies than she did telling me about the actual bunnies! Initially, I was just trying to help this woman (Wendy) out. But I now have the impression this is way more than a case of "fostering" and more like a case of "dumping your pets on someone who will give them proper care so you don't have a guilty conciense." Still, of course I was committed to doing it, because the only ones who really risk suffering is those poor bunnies.
These two bunnies are both spayed/neutered, about 2 years old and healthy. Their names are Tia and Loki. Loki (male) is a Black Minilop; Tia (female) is a Rhinelander, white with brown spots. They both weigh about 7 pounds. They are both a bit shy. Wendy told me that Loki is usually more outgoing and Tia is always skiddish and dislikes being held, but I've found it to be quite the opposite.....when I got Tia home, I picked her up and cuddled her for a long time, and she seemed to enjoy it; Loki was a bit disturbed, I think with the move. To quote Wendy, "They were both very sweet tempered when I got them and gave them the attention they need. But since I haven't had time to do that, they've gotten shy and scared of people. But I'm sure if you start giving them attention they'll go back to being friendly outgoing rabbits." These two bunnies are both very bonded with each other, and so need to be placed in a home together.
As I said, I think Wendy would be very happy to never see them again, and to be honest after seeing their conditions (filthy) and how she speaks of them, I don't know if I would even feel comfortable giving them back to her. She told me, "It would be great if you could find a home for them too, because I really don't have time."
I will email you pictures after I get them tomorrow evening. And THANKS for your help!
