I'm currently waiting for our very rabbit savvy vet to call back, but I thought I would ask the lovely people here for opinions.

Our mini lop is on Baytril oral for an upper respiratory thing. He has been on it about a week, and when we give it, we give a little extra banana slice because it encourages him to behave. He also gets his usual banana slice (these are thin slices) at breakfast and at bedtime. He is acting normal, his symptoms of the respiratory thing have cleared up and he still has another week on the meds. He has a large cage and there is a padded foam floor mat covered in a sheet. The sheet has some chalky white marks on it - almost like footprints in two places. So, I checked his litter box and noticed that where he is urinating has some chalky white residue. He doesn't seem in distress, is eating and pooing normally, not refusing his treats or his greens. He gets 1 cup of pellets once a day, and he devours them, but also eats timothy hay, greens, and the daily banana treat I mentioned before at breakfast and before bed.

Is it possible the medication is causing this, or could it be his food? Any thing we should look for over the next few days? From what I read, it could just be sludge, and we are pushing the greens and making sure to monitor his water intake. I will check to see if it's still happening tomorrow. He has never had this happen before. Just wondering if I should have cause for concern?

hm, I thought that this is how normal urine traces look like. At least my buns do it. Sludge would be almost toothpaste consistency but I am not an expert. I just read about it.

Thanks for the feedback. I feel stupid! I should have searched first. Someone posted this great video in another thread, and it helped me identify that it's likely just calcium, and as long as I don't keep seeing it, I think it's normal. That's good news! :)

Here's the video in case anyone else wants to see it:

A bit of chalky residue is normal calcium deposits. It's when it is thick and a creamy consistency, or thick and toothpaste like, that bladder sludge is a problem. If you are at all concerned about the amount of calcium residue, you could try lowering the calcium content a bit in his diet.
