My 2 year old male has what looks like some sort of tar stuck to his hair at the edges of his nostril. Hard to describe the location but if you look at the face straight on the nose is Y shaped with one line going down to the mouth and the others branching out like a Y. It is located at both ends of this Y. It will not wash off nor rub off. He has not been near anything like a tar or anything sticky. Its almost as if he was nosing into mud or breathing dust but it won't come off.

Everything else about him is normal. Eats, pees, poops and plays normally. He lives alone but plays with another rabbit in his outdoor pen.

I have a photo if it would help.

Now here is the next problem. Two more of the rabbits have started to get it. These two live together and have not been in contact with the first. All live in clean hutches with lots of clean hay (daily) and fresh water.

Am I getting paranoid or do I have some sort of epidemic on my hands?

Could be snot. If its showing up on your other rabbits, I'd def take them to see a vet, could be bunny syphilis (Vent Disease) or something since its spreading. Rabbit snot can sometimes take a soapy water like with Dawn to get off.

There's a thread a few down if you select Recent (might be in Intros?) about a bunny or person named Lily, the bunny in the photo looks like it might have a similar issue to what you're describing?

Thanks. I don't think it is Vent as its not scabby. I just looked at it again and its almost like a cluster of black hairs. The total area of the mark is smaller than the head of a match.

Early Vent isn't scabby yet :) My Samson had it and hers didn't scab, she just had hair loss and snot.

I usually upload to another site like photobucket, then grab the direct link and paste it into the little box that pops up when you click the "image" button in Reply.

OK I have uploaded the photo but still want to paste it in this forum. I do not want to use Photobucket as it only baffles my computer.
So how can I transfer the photo to this forum?

here it is! There's a "G" for Gallery in Reply:D

Use a bit of Dawn dishsoap and warm water, that should be able to get it out. It could be he had snot for whatever reason, then it got dirt or food dust trapped in it and solidified. Keep an eye on it though, pasteurella is pretty common but can be pretty serious.

Things are the same with him and he is acting entirely normal in every regard. I thought maybe he had gotten into some kind of goo but I checked his indoor and outdoor pens and there is nothing. I knew there would not be when I built them but I want to cover all bases.
Now here is part two. Another rabbit has marks on her nose in the exact same spot. They are greyish and the larger one is about the diameter of a cigarette. Dry and cannot be washed off unless I force her down to try.Almost like a fur colour change.
Both of these rabbits are not in contact with each other except they live in the same shed in different hutches on opposite sides of the room. She is acting normal as well.
All of the pens are cleaned daily with all the newspaper and all the hay removed. The water and food bowls are washed daily and they get fresh water frequently during the day and lots of fresh hay with their 14% protein pellets.
They also get out to run at least 3 hours a day of late.
I've been reading about Pasturella and it does seem to be the same symptoms. Her paws are dry but I have not checked her genitals.
