I have been biting my nails ever since I can't remember, everyong looks at me in horror when they see my nails they are less then 1cm small.

Can someone please help me, I've tried EVERYTHING, horrible tasting stuff to put on your nails, gloves, will power - you name it... HELLLPPPP

I wanted to do that but then mum said my nails are already damaged enough and the glue might damage them more :?

Acrylic nails shouldnt damage your real nails, sure they are expensive to start off with (£20 ish) but they are hard to break off and usually last 3-5 weeks, then they usually fall off or you can soak them off with nail polish remover.

I used to be a compulsive nail-biter, I still do (rarely). It took me over a year to "quit". I basically just had to catch myself doing it and stop. It was really hard, but I just kept telling myself "NO" and eventually I quit. Now that my nails are a little longer, I paint them and that prevents me from chewing them.

I use to bite my nails till they were very small like you. The only thing that stoped me was braces because it hurt when I tried to bite them!

Aly!:)

Biting your nails can give you worms. :yuck
Feel like quiting now?
lol, it's true actually. Happened to my mom.

I used to be a very bad nail biter when I was younger. I tried everything from the yucky tasting stuff to will power. Nothing helped. The only thing that worked was I got braces in grade 7 and physically couldn't do it anymore.

I made sure I didn't start again when the braces came off by keeping my nails cut super short. I still to this day have to keep them cut super short or I feel like I want to chew them. The urge isn't as bad as it used to be.

Are you biting them out of anxiety? Boredom? Its hard to just stop doing it if its a coping tool for you. You need to find something to replace it, otherwise it will be hard to stop by will power alone.

Oh wow Happi Bun! Worms? That's kinda weird.

But I usually paint my nails and then when I bite them, it tastes nasty soI done bite them anymore. I always have nail polish on, or a last a clear coat thing on them. I'm not sure how to stop if you've tired all of those things..

Hmmm.. :?

Yep, worms! Dun dun dun. The germs under your nails have something to do with it. Nail biting can also cause teeth problems.

Oh, yeah. That happened when she was a child. :)

I have read that there isn't any research that supports the claim you can get worms but then I will read a different article that says it's possible. I don't see why it wouldn't be with all the germs that are under your finger nails.

I find what works is creating a little cult around your nails, treating and pampering them and then you're less likely to attack them with your teeth

HELP I don't want worms, I think I've had them before though :?

I don't.. know what to do to stop.. Sabine my nails are too short to do ANYTHING with..

Paint them anyhow with a discreet colour and work on the cuticles. Rub oil into them and pay a lot of attention to them. It only takes a week or so for them to regenerate. Just keep paying attention to them.Trust me I go through phases of mangling my nails when I'm stressed and I'm way older than you

Is there a particular time you chew them? Could you do something else to keep your mouth/fingers occupied?

And keep looking at them and enjoying every millimeter of growth, That'll stop you putting them near yur teeth distractedly. File them to shape even when they're short anyhow

I don't know why but I always feel the urge to have something in my mouth, either my nails, a pen, clothes etc. I dunno if it was becuse I had over 5 dummies at the same time on each finger and I always had one in my mouth and stroking my face etc.

So its just basically all the time, apart from when I'm typing hehe or singing or talking...
