I just found this site tonight and was wondering why I never thought of looking for a rabbit forum before now.
Any how, I live in Western Washington and I am just not getting started up again after a decade of not raising rabbits. I am interested in three distinct areas this go around.
#1 I want to experiment with colonies. I have never been convinced that this was an efficient way of raising rabbits, but after reading an awful lot about it on the net; I figured I would go about in such a way as to prove or disprove the concept for my needs.
#2 I want to play around with the cross breeding and selective breeding to get the traits that I like. Now I know everything in the world has already been done and it is only good for my own entertainment.
#3 This is actually the most serious of the pursuits that I am chasing. I am in the process of looking for American Chinchilla breeding stock. I hope to raise top of the line stock for show and sale. I like the idea of raising a rare breed and I actually like their heritage as a dual purpose rabbit. I hope to build up several good lines and then try and perfect feed conversion rations in those lines.
