Benjamin is a two year old giant french lop. He got stung in the ear, and is acting quite uncomfortable. I have put a cold cloth and baking soda on it. He is drinking but acting like he is in pain. What can I do. Of course he is not eating.

Was it a bee or a wasp? If its a bee, you need to remove the stinger and the soda and cold cloth should help.

If its a wasp, no stinger, and I read that malt vinegar may help.

How is he doing?

It is red hot here today. I don't know if it is a bee sting or stomach shut down from the heat. He is just lying there except to get up on my bed and pee. He is drinking, and I can see a red irritated mark on his ear. He is very lethargic which is unusual for him. I am treated him as if he has a fur ball backup from the heat and bee sting. I have given him bromelian, yogurt with probiatic tablet added, colic drops and pumpkin. I am definitely feeling panic, it is Sat. night no vet open, Len says that I am panicing, to wait and see how he is in the morning. He was grooming himself. If that is a good sign.

Awww poor baby! I hope he'll be okay! Can you see a stinger? If it's hot can you aim a fan at him?

Took him outside for run. He passed about 6-8 poos so things are starting to move. Vet didn't want to see him or push B vitamins. Says that he is a big healthy rabbit most of time, and as soon as things move he should start to eat. He is not in as much pain, moving around and cleaning. Gave him another really good brush. Swelling around ear basically gone. He ate a couple of leave of willow ( thought that would be good for the pain ) piece of a banana, and a small bit of dandelions. Last night was pretty scary. He wanted to sleep on the bed between Len and I. He keep scratching the covers until he was pulled close and told that he was alright. He is outside now, seems relaxed. Just got a fresh pineapple and put part of it through juicer so that I had fresh bromelian. Has had probiotics, oval, also. Damn this is really scary having a rabbit that sick, I really feel for those who have rabbits that present with GI Statis on occasion. Oh yeah, today is my birthday, we cancelled all of our plans for Benjamin and the only thing I have asked for is for Ben to start pooing and eating. He is drinking well. Thanks for all of your prayers.

Happy Birthday! ;)

True bunny slaves cancel birthday plans for their sick bunnies ; it is the right thing to do :innocent
Ihope that his appetite picks up; it sounds like it is ..let us know ..did you try to offer him some fresh greens( if he is used to getting them)

How is our little dude doing today? I hope all better! He really does remind me of Rory, both in how he looks and in needing to cancel plans because of him! For me, it was the flight back home for Christmas that I had to cancel because Rory ate a leaf of a possibly poisonous plant right before I had to leave (nothing ended up happening). Gotta love our pain in the butt bunnies :)

Phoned vet in Salmon Arm today because he still wasn't eating, acting like he had full blown GIT. Vet couldn't have been less concerned, so phoned a mobile vet in Vernon, who then gave me the phone number of a vet in Winfield ( about 1 plus hours away ) . They worked me in. Did full exam, blood work, X-rays, checked ear to make sure it didn't form an abcess, checked teeth, fluid and B12 shots, shot for gut mobility and nausea, on 24 hour/7day week call for anxious pet parents. Came to 365 with a taxes. That also included a package of critical care. The x-rays and blood work were to rule out any kind of liver or kidney problem, but she didn't feel any blockage or tumors. The first thing he did when we got him home was almost drink his water dish dry ( has hardly drank for days ) Also licked down a full huge syringe full of critical care. I feel much better, of course I am a worrier, so am now worrying about the results of the blood work ( Maybe he did get into something toxic, I don't think so ) and xrays. They only did one take of x-rays and had told me if something was suspicious they would do more than one. Any way at this point he is resting, looking better.
