She gets out regularly for long stretches. Is there something I can put in the bars to deter her?

Because she digs at the carpet. We have to keep her caged when we are not at home to supervise her.

Rabbits chew for various reasons, it might be to get your attention, to 'chew' her way out, or because she's bored.

Although you have her out a lot it might be your caging her at times when she's feeling active and wants to explore. Rabbits are often most active in the early morning/evening and at night... does that correspond with the times she's shut in?

There are a few things you can do, is it possible to give her more space when caged? eg if you cage her at night, you could use a fold up pen attached to her cage then put it away during the day when you need more room to move about. Giving her alternate activities within her cage will help too. If she's too busy with other activities she'll chew less. Things like a treat ball for her food, things to throw or other things to chew.

You could also attach wooden chews/sticks on to the bars with cable ties in the areas that she chews. Whilst this doesn't address the underlying issue it is better for her to chew :)

Usually she is in her cage mid day. I've tried chew sticks and I often give her new toys to play with. Her favorites seem to be boxes/pop cartons. Which help some but I've caught her a few times chewing on the cage I usually throw a new thing in her cage to try and keep her busy. She's actually in an extra large dog kennel (Rottweiler size). Even over the summer she was in a rather large rabbit run in the back yard and still chewed on her cage bars.

might try some fruit tree branches/twigs,,for chewing on--,when jojobeez was chewing on his bars it was because he was teething(issues) and because he wanted another escape route...he got his wish, much happier,..sincerely james waller:wave::rose:

Midas has done this for 2 years now. I've made his cage huge (friends say I have a bunny penthouse) and he gets lots of out time. And he has tons of toys and he still does it! I think its just a bad habit that once they start, its really hard to get them to stop.

Good luck!
