Talk about bounce! Boing!

Gave the vet a check last Friday when she was here to do shots. Today was my pay day so I gave her a postdated check and I told her to hold it until today (I've done business with her for almost 18 years).

Get a nasty gram from my bank today and the vet's officebrought the check in earlier this week - the 22nd, not the 24th so I have a bounced check fee and a nasty gram. I called the bank to see how they could cash a check when it is not good until the date on it and apparently they "don't check the dates." :X The girl said when I gave the check to the vet it was good regardless of date. Huh? If I tried to cash a postdated check to me, the teller would tell me NO. Not that I would do that... I know how tight the economy is.

Plan to call vet's office on Monday to see what went wrong at their end... and try to speak with an executive of the bank who I work with at school on a scholarship program for his advice. I worked in radiology billing years ago and we never put a postdated check in with the deposits due that day...why pay the bank fees?! I just wanted the vet to have her money today when I got paid, not get "screwed" (can I say that?! Hope I can say that...sorry if I am not supposed to say that) in the process....

:grumpy::censored2::banghead:rant::panic:

Thanks for letting me vent. I really thought the vet's office would hold it until today - they do everything else so perfectly....

Denise

PS - On a good note, sent my entries in for my show on May 9th and am going to ride horses this evening as it is sunny and warm.

I was a good mom today - brought Benn to the mall (I am not a mall person - hate to shop!) so he could pick out skin care stuff and makeup (in case I have not mentioned it before, he came "out" when he was 13 - he can outshop any girl, hands down! He is now almost 18 and I am so glad he can be who he is, not pretending to be something he is not - my younger brother went through that and it was H*** for him until he came out in his 30s) for a hair show he is going to next week because he has to look good. Plus, he is going to cut and color my hair tonight and he always makes me look good.

Whew! Pass me a cup of tea...

Your gripe is really with your vet's office. If they agreed to hold the check, then they should have. I work for a bank (have been in banking for almost 30 years) and they do not check dates. Especially with a business deposit that has numerous checks. If you walked up to the counter with a single check the teller may notice, but not always. They are not required too. With the number of transactions a bank processes daily, they just cannot do this. If you want a check held, it is the responsibility of the payee to do this. I'm sorry this happened to you.

I worked at a bank for a year, and you sometimes let things slip. I mean, you don't try to, and you aren't supposed to cash/deposit them until the date on the check, but there are so many other things that you have to look for, and checking the date it kind of low on the list. The date on the check is somewhat of a courtesy between the payer/payee. It still sucks when it happens, though. I'm sorry it bounced.

Denise, that's great that you are ok with your son's sexuality! In our rural/conservative area, it's kinda frowned upon to say the least...... and our one farm vet is a gay man. He's AWESOME and I wouldn't want anyone else caring for the sheep and goats. A lot of people won't use him because of his "preference".... stupid!

Anyhow, I would be TOTALLY angry but the vet probably just made a mistake.... or her office staff. It's still not right. I know banks don't "believe" in post dating checks..... which is so funny cause you can't cash a payroll check if you get it early! LOL! again.... Stupid!

Thanks, guys! Just had to rant a bit - it was nothing hopping on Weatherly for ten minutes couldn't fix and she was steering better for me!

I will check with the vet's office on Monday...and Bo's right about a payroll check with a postdate on it - can't cash that one...oh well....

Bo - we are in a rural area, too but folks seem to be OK with it - other kids came "out" after Benn. The girls love him to death - he is great with hair, makeup and fashion. He looked smashing in his white tux at his junior prom, with all the ladies standing behind him going up the stairs at the photo location...and lots of pictures were taken of that pose. The girls dragged him into the picture to be with them....

The worst part is I am not a shopper and Benn is! He was chatting with the sales clerks at the makeup place and it took an hour for him to find the things he wanted. I got a few perfume samples while I waited and paced.:grumpy: I really hate shopping. Benn was happy because I was in my work clothes and "looked cute." He hates when I go to the mall in jeans as my jeans might have hay on them. Ooops!

It was a bit tough to accept at first (due to my brother, I know how hard coming out is) but when I realized that he is still my son, and I am lucky enough to be able to hug him daily - some parents do not have that option if their children tragically pass - I realized how lucky I really am, every day that goes by.

One of my coworkers lost her only son in a DWI crash a few years back and I do not doubt if she could hug her son again, even if he was gay (he was not), that she would really care. That was a very sad reminder for me that life can be short and there's no sense getting hung up with what folks do behind closed doors - that is their business.

Plus, I have a talented makeup artist/hairstylist/fashion person right here at my fingertips. He makes sure I know if I look bad. "You're going out like that?! MOM!"

Thanks, everyone!

Don't you mean fabulous? :p Sorry, mini-gay joke. My roommate is gay, so I've heard a lot of gay banter. :) I'm also glad to hear that you accept your son for who he is.

My neighbor is gay, as well, and comes from a strict conservative family. His father does not know his sexuality, and never will. He would probably kill his own son... It's sad. His own sister will never talk to him again. He's like the "black sheep" of the family, just because of how he is. It's refreshing to see parents accepting their son (or daughter's) sexuality. Way to go! :D

1 - putbenn on a plane to devon immediately! he sounds more tactful than my current advisor - 14 year old daughter.

2 - banks =:censored2::pullhair::tantrum::banghead:soapbox

Benn wants to go to the Fashion Institute of London or the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC when he graduates from high school...

He does all the girls' hair in class and on his cheerleading squad... and is even doing the moms' hair too! You'd love him!

My brother tried to commit suicide when he was a teen - thank God he failed. I am just glad he can be who he is, too.

Fabulous? Absolutely!:biggrin2:

He sounds Fab! My friends Uncle is gay and when he's over, he lives in LA, so is VERY up to date on the fashions lol. He takes me and Han shopping and its so funny lol, lotsa "oh hunny that does nothing for you" and "my sweet aunt angelica that is gorgeous!" He's so awesome! Where I live theres not that many "out" guys or any gay guys at all come to think. So when they see this hugely tall guy who is obv gay walking down the street they all stare and some insert bad word here people yell stuff, kinda don't expect that in todays day and age. I personally think your very lucky, your own stylist on hand to your beck and call, what more could you want!

Back to the original topic lol I would be phoning your vet and asking them if they will pay the fees seems it's there stuff up......

Thanks! He's a doll - just hope the world will evolve to see that no matter what one's orientation, there is a lot of cool folks out there.

Ali - I grew up in CT - Norwalk, in the Silvermine area. We left there about 19 years ago. My family (mom, brother, sister, brother in law, nieces and stepdad) is now in North Stonington and Waterford.

Best place to shop according to Benn is the Stockyard (I think that is what it is called) in Mystic. Great buys and name brands at really affordable prices - they handle lots of overages and the stock changes quickly and often. Also, there's a little shop in Misquamicut, RI that has cute accessories. I would not know this unless Benn told me.

And, I'll call the vet's office on Monday - after a day volunteering at the humane society with Mercy (she made lots of money again giving kisses to people), I am feeling better and not as torqued.

Best news today is that the farm manager connected with a local 4H rabbit group and they are hot to have a rabbit agility or rabbit hopping group that can do displays and demonstrations - she was excited to see the YouTube videos I sent her and she feels it may help with their rabbit adoptions. There was a Silver Fox, a Tan, a couple of New Zealand crosses and a few lops - the lops were fortunate enough to have "I've been adopted - please see my friends next door if you are looking for a bunny to love" signs on their cages.

Ali - :tantrum:im sure my need is greater than yours....;)

Denise - there was a small piece on BBC news last week on rabbit hopping - newsreaders thought it was hilarious:rollseyes the clip was a home video of two young lads and their buns. the lads had built a short course, akin to what i've seen on links in this forum, and the buns were very agile.

The forum here was my inspiration on the hopping/agility so I am following the advice given on the obstacles and those who have gone before me.

If being hopping/agility trained makes a bun more adoptable, I am willing to give it a go so that someday, our humane society won't have as many buns looking for a home and the buns will have a chance to work with people until they find their own special person.

Calling vet's office tomorrow - a good friend of mine is a teller at a different bank and she said in their branch, they are not allowed to cash postdated checks, regardless. She said there is a reason they are postdated and to cash them just incurs fees all around. Oh well.

Denise
