Tomorrow, I am going to a Band Contest in a citycalled Manor... My band has been working a 4 different pieces of songsfor about 4 months trying to make them perfect. We get a grade by 2judges after we play them depending on how good we do... I am reallyworried because last year we did not do good at all! The grading levelis as follows;

1 is the best- 5 is the worst anyone could ever play. Last year we gota 3.5... That is extremely bad considering that our school has nevergotten worse then a 2.

P.S. I play the clarinet and am chair 2.

Good Luck!!!

I play in band as well, i play the flute and am first chair....we have something similar to that, we don't get judged...

we just play ten or so pieces for an audience, and we are with threeother bands...we practice the assigned pieces and then one day we getout of school, practice with the other three schools and perform forfamily and friends!

Good luck!:):):)

I was in the band for 10 years when I was in school. I loved it! A lot of us still keep in touch.

I'll keep thinking "1...1...1...1..." for you tomorrow!:D

To our Clarinet and Flute Performers: BunnyLover and Ellie:

Very Best of Luck in all your competitions.

If you like to play, don't stop. Put in the time. There's somethingreally wonderful when you can make an instrument come alive. I wish Ihad kept up with piano. I regret it still that I didn't - don't care toperform, but it was a good source of expression and stress release.

Music is a great therapy for those that play, and those that sit back and appreciate the gift that you share.

Best luck!!

Carolyn: it's never too late to take up an instrument again. Go for it.You deserve it.:DI have a 79 yr. old man starting nextweek--never played violin before. I love adult students, and I'll bet alot of music teachers agree with me!

Me, I love the performing part best. When people enjoy it, I feel like I've done something worthwhile for someone.

Lots of people, however, get the most satisfaction of playing just forthemselves. Stress relief is right!! Whatever inspires you is great!:)

Again, band members Bunnylover and Ellie--have fun, and knock 'em dead!;)

So I just walked in the door after finding out myscore from my Band teacher... We have 3 judges for each time we play.In consert we played 3 peices called, March Zuma, Australian FolkFantasy, and Wildwind. We made straight 1's on all of them!! We werereally happy. Then we went to a thing called sight reading (some of youmay have heard of it but incase you haven't...) it is where they set areally hard peice down in front of you that you have never seen everbefore. Then they tell you to start playing without even practicingfirst (really annoying). Anyways, the peice was really hard and wemessed up a couple times but we got a 2 (from 2 judges) and a 1 fromone judge. So that was pretty cool!
