Hello. We own a New Zealand White buck that is at least four years old, we got him as an adult so we're not sure how old he is but we've had him for four years. He is a breeding rabbit but will be neutered in the Fall as he will be retired as a pet. He appears to be a perfectly normal rabbit behavior-wise.
About a two months ago we noticed a large bald spot, about three inches in diameter, on one of his hind legs. After about two weeks in the fur had all grown back. A couple more weeks and another bald spot appeared on his other leg and then it all grew back in. Today, I noticed smaller bald spots, one on each leg, about an inch and a half, on both of his hind legs (The two pictures I have included are from this time). They don't seem to bother him and the skin is pink and very smooth. There's almost no red or irritated looking skin and the fur around the patches look like he's been licking it.
I've tried doing research on this and haven't been able to figure out what is wrong. Could he be pulling hair because he's bored? Or is something wrong with his health?
Next, he also has a small lump that I only noticed recently. When I touch it he doesn't seem uncomfortable or in pain. However, a lump is always suspicious. Any idea what it could be?
Thanks so much for any help. This rabbit means the world to my sister so I want to make sure he is healthy and happy.
