Amy just posted in her "I'm so ticked" thread about the place where she's been storing her photos for several years crashing and how she lost stuff.....

:soapbox:soapbox:soapbox:soapbox:soapbox:soapbox:soapbox:soapbox:soapbox

So I'm starting this new thread to remind everyone to back up their photos so you don't lose them. (I'm horrible at remembering to backup things...so I'm preaching at myself as much as I am anyone else).

I just backed up over 2400 photos and videos on photobucket.com by ordering them on dvd - and it cost me just under $15 (I did the cheapest, slowest shipping rate). I'm a pro member on photobucket, so I think that got me a slight discount on my order....

Anyway - for those of you who do use a webhosting program - I recommend backing up your photos w/ them by ordering them on cd/dvd - or making your own backups...

(Getting off soapbox now......:time:)

Totally!

I can't believe when I hear that people don't keep a copy of pictures and files elseware, no way I'd trust some website to keep all my stuff safe for me. I have a couple of backup harddrives and DVD's around the house.

Very good idea. I'm a pro member on Photobucket, too. I didn't know youcould get a CD or DVD of your stuff. I'm going to look into that.

I did have ALL my pictures on our computer, until a few weeks ago we got a virus, so Ryan had to clear the computer...I didn't think anything of my pictures and I was dumb enough to think that my pictures would be safe on a site that I have been using for 4 years.

:?

Oh man that's so sad! I didn't mean to imply anyone was dumb, so I hope you didn't feel that way .

I've had tons of viruses and never had to wipe my drive, so that really sucks :soapbox

Not sure if anyone remembers but I got a virus not long after I lost Milly and all my pics vanished. Thankfully the person who fixed my comp for me managed to recover most of them.

Even after that scare I havent backed up any of my new pics yet....thanks for the reminder. :)
