Please wish me luck (maybe even think positive thoughts for my guy's system to accept pellets, so that he can gain/maintain weight). *fingers crossed*

I took my Cali Boy off pellets for a few weeks', during which time I've been gradually re-introducing greens (with an enzyme-probiotic compound added to them). I wanted to see if his tummy would get gassy from greens; it's still loudish at times, but it seems that pellets were the main cause of his previous gas bouts.

Unfortunately (but not surprisingly), he's not holding his weight with just hay and some greens. (He's gone from 7.75 to 7.6 lbs.) So I've talked to his vet, who wants me to start him again on his pellets, though a tiny amount to be very slowly increased.

Yesterday, I gave him Oxbow BB/Tagain (1/2 Tbsp.). I'lltry that for 4-5 days', which is enough time to see how he handles it. (The last time that he got VERY gassy, it was obvious by day threeof eating 1/8 C./day.)

Oooh good luck.

Oats are kind on the tummy and can help put weight on (just something else worth thinking about if he can't tolerate pellets, or many of them).

Keep us updated :)

Thank you for the reminder. I'll definitely consider them, although I've read conflicting opinions on them. (Go figure.)

The vet had asked if my guy had appetite/poop problems when he was gassy; I said no. So she said it's possible that his system may need to work through a gassy period as it adjusts to pellets.

Today was Day #3 of feeding him 1/2 Tbsp. of Oxbow BB/T pellets. His gut is more audible now, but he's still eating/drinking/playing/pooping/peeing normally.

I'll continue feeding him the same amount of pellets for at least several more days' timeto see (hear/feel) if the gassiness changes. (Of course, I hope that it decreases with time....)

I use oats a bit actually. For Ringo well you have read about Ringo so I am sure you understand why with him. For Dallas because he can't have to many pellets with out getting runny poops but than starts to lose weight.

If it doesn't maybe try1/2 a tbsp of pellets and oats.

By the way my vet knows about the oats. Also maybe ask the vet what they think about trying oats.

I don't know what'll happen if I continue feeding even 1/2 Tbsp. of pellets for, say, a week's time; in the past, I stopped after day three (or four) because his gut would get so dang loud! He also felt a bit bloated, and the gas would pop like crazy while I gently massaged his digestive tract. But his poops always remained normal. :?

Today, his gut is a lil' poppy/gurgly but nothing like before; so I'll continue on with just the pellets. If his gut gives me reason (again) to back off, I'll then ask the vet about trying oats along with the pellets.
