Hey everyone, at about 1am this morning, i heardmy Roxy giving birth so i waited for her to finish before i checked outthe place where they were born, there appeared to be 3 livekits crawling around their nest. About 6 hours later, i peeked in againand it looked like they were all hidden right under the fur and nest soi left them. And another 9 hours later, i went into the nest this timeto check for feeding etc. I found their was 1 dead kit this time whichdefinately wasn't dead before, i removed him and he looked to be morethan double the size the living ones so i checked this out and webelieve he may be a fetal giant. Anyway, the other 2 appeared full andwarm so fingers crossed! is it unusual for just 3 babies, the motherwas a lionhead and the father a himalayan Rex. Any ideas what i shouldbe doing now, any more inspections? when can i begin to handle themetc??? Leanne xxx

i will keep you posted and send pics when they're a bit older!

Make sure you check the babies every day(especially in themorning)/Theyshould look likethey swallowed a ping-pong ball. They shouldn't appearwrinkly, if they do, they'll need your help getting fed. Momusually feeds them at dawn.

Don't be afraid to handle them. Does usually don't mind, especially if you entice her with a treat. Be certain thatthey remain in the nest and don't fall onto the wire. If theydo fall onto the wire, most does won't take care of them.

Glad you made sure to check to see if you had any stillborns.

Keep us posted!

yeah, i am keeping a close eye on them all thoughthey dont seem to want to leave the nest. I am pretty sure they are fedas they have large bellies but there are some wrinkles else where. onlyvery small, is this ok?? the mother doesnt seem to mind me going nearthem anyway so i should be ok but i will probably leave them for acouple of days other than to inspect them obviously, Leanne xxx

I'd check them every day to make sure no one passed on during the night. It can't help to handle them either.

A few wrinkles are fine as long as their bellies are nice and fat. They shouldn't appear shriveled.

Yep, kits will make noises when they are hungryor think that mom is going to feed them. It is pretty cute but theysure can get noisey!

Kits also "pop" in the nest box, it looks like popcorn popping! Whenyou take them out to handle them be careful because they can pop rightout of your hand or whatever you are carrying them in.

Some do and some don't so I guess ithas to do with their personalitys(IMHO). Different buns havea wide range of vocalizations they use but I would think that due totheir ancestory it is in the benefit of the buns to be quiet lestpredators can hear them. They seem to have adopted so much bodylanguage to make up for the lack of sound.

:shock:I want kits!

Gemine is pregnant! We think?? We were keepingthe two seperated and my sister was bored playing with Leo. She put himin my room with Gemine in there without knowing it... They started tochase each other in circles. I didn't see anything happen but I am notsure if she is pregnant or not. Now what should I do? This happened onthe 17th of Febuary. :?

Congratulations Nanna/ grandma what ever you wish to be called :D

I have yet to experience the joy of kits (not that I planning on having them with Bindy)

However I am going to go back to where I got Bindy from and give themmy number and ask them to call me when they next have kits so I can seethis magical time for myself.

Sounds exciting!!

hello, just wanted to ask if little squeaky noises comingfrom the kits in normal, i know it probably is but i just wanted tocheck, thanks, leanne xxx
Something like:

eh eh eh eh WREEEEEK WREEEEK (crash thump bump bump) AH AH AH AH WREEEEEEE!

When thegirls get older (as adults), they make noises like a short humph! When the boys get older, they say:

Uhh uhhh hmmm hmmm whufh huh huh huh huhhuhhuh whoooooof

Usually accompanied by running madly around someone's legs. :p

And people say bunnies are silent!;)

GUESS WHAT???? I have just discovered a new livekit in the nest! now thats 3! yay!! but it also means the one i am surewas alive to begin with but died could have been stillborn as the onlyreason i was sure it was live to begin with was becoz i saw 3moving! i'm glad i have 3, it seems so much more than 2, lol!

Congratulations if your rabbit is pregnant bunnylover, if she ispregnant. All you have to do now, is wait til she is 10 to 14 days andthen feel for kits. I hope everything works out!

Aww, sounds sweet ariel, if onlyw e lived closer, we could breed ur himalayan 2 mine, lol!!

Bluebird - do you think you will ever try for another litter. Roxy'sfirst litter was 5 stillborneven though she was fullyprepared, which was upsetting but everythings workin out ok this timeso far.

The noises are along the lines of eh eh eh etc, but it seems to be wheni move the nest at all or wen i put them back in, i'm guessing its cozthey think its their mum and that means foooooood!

I am going to try post some pics tonight if i can get some decent ones!!

Speak to you all soon, Leanne xxx
