I have always wondered this:

At what age do babies stop "walking" and begin to hop?

In particular mini-rex if you know

Are there different times, an area of time or variables of sorts?

My Mini Rex seem to be mostly hopping by time they are 3 weeks old. They walk (or crawl) before their eyes open. At 10-11 days their eyes open and a few days after that, they start moving different (sort of a combination of walk and hop). By 21 days, they are all pretty much hopping around. So cute at that age! And it's even funnier when they try to binky and get all tangled up!

20days old:

Ok - now tell me this... do you see rabbits being sold at really young ages much?

I ask because I see photos of baby mini-rex and videos and When I got Bo he was VERY little. He didn't hop at all. I was told later by the breeder he was born in May. That's all. I got him on August 22.

And I know there's no way to be sure but I always suspected he was much younger than 10 to 12 weeks.

This is him 1 month after we got him - he's laying on a wash cloth - which he fit completely in when I got him.

PS: I'm coming over there to bunnynap all those baby mini-rex! That one is SO cute!

Yes, I do see rabbits being sold very young. I've seen babies in Pet Stores that I'm convinced were only 4 weeks old. (You have no idea how mad THAT makes me!) And I know some breeders sell babies at 6 weeks. Technically, they are weaned at that age, but they really shouldn't be sold so early.

Personally, no Mini Rex leave here until it is at least 8 weeks old. If someone isn't happy about that, they can get a rabbit somewhere else. No Flemish leaves here until it is at least 10 weeks old.

I have to mention, I've had a number of babies, especially Flemish, that were just plain clumsy. Seemed to take them a little longer to get the hang of hopping. They are SO funny to watch too! So I could see a 6-7 week old baby still "walking". Bo may have been a little younger than the guy let on.

I love seeing the clumsy ones, they are so cute! That's how Skitterbug, one of the Flemish bucks I raised, got his name. He was about 4-5 weeks, tried to go zipping across teh cage from end to end with a binky in the middle, and wound up doing this funny little flip-flop. I cracked up laughing, and the closest name I could come up with for that move was a skitter, and I was already calling him a little bug, so there you go. :biggrin2:

Awww I love babies! I bet he was cute!

After Bo got his hopping down - he would ZOOM across the floor - even the hardwood, but he still will not go into the kitchen where we have white linoleum! LOL!

Sorry to butt in, but I love that baby walk thing! Our friends baby bunnies are 2 weeks old today and they are doing the baby bunny tip-toe, it's gorgeous :D. They do a little hop-binky- skip thing every now and then too and look so shocked when it happens.

Oh I know! it's so cute seeing them walk and doing those sudden, uncontrolled binkies! LOL!

I've decided that binkies are not intentional but involuntary reaction to happiness! :)

That's what Kalea is doing, hehe! She's 2 weeks old today as well and she does the same sort of little tippy-toe steps and the hop-binky-skip things. It's SO adorable to watch her. I have that video of her in my post, it shows her walking and such.

Yes, but not for eatins :p, dat popcorns no good for the eatins!

All kidding set aside, last time we visited the little 2 week old, Mathew reckoned they were so cute he wanted to stuff them in his mouth ...not for wanting to eat them, just as an expression of too much cuteness...weird man :?.

LOL! cute!

Those babies are definitely cute too! I love little baby animals like bunnies and mice when they first start venturing a bit. Bluesky's little baby is right at that age where she's just so darned cute!
