It's time for us to renew our antivirus subscription thingy, but I did a search for free anitvirus, and this came up;

http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Will this actually work, and keep the computer safe? Even though it's free? :? I can use computers but when it comes to things like this I have no idea at all, so any help would be much appreciated. :)

I don't use that, but I use AVG which is free, and I've not had any problems with it at all, al I know a good few people who use it too. That's just in case no one comes back with anything about Avast.

Oooh fast reply! :D

That's great! I'm just after any free one that works really, Avast was just the first one that came up on Google, so I'll go take a look at that now. Thanks Tracy!

Ha ha, I'm sad enough to be staring at a dead forum and be eagerly awaiting anything I can reply to, lol.

If you google AVG Free it should bring it up, I couldn't find it on the AVG site when I first went looking, I had to use google.

Good luck :)

Just thoughtI would add AVG is anti-virus, I also had to get Zonealarm (another free thing) for spyware and stuff.

We're running Norton's Internet Security (2008).

We bought a package good for 3 installations for less than $50 USD.

It's got: antivirus, firewall, antispyware, antiphising, identity security.

:)

Michaela, when I recently was having problems, I was talking with Michelle and at that time she mentioned to me that she uses Avast and she is quite computer savvy/techie.

Maybe read some reviews on it first and go for it.:D

My boyfriend is Mr computer tech know it all. And he recommends using AVG free in combination with Spybot Search and Destroy or Adaware. AVG apparently also has a spyware remover too now.

Ryan hasn't used AVAST, but our landlady uses it and Ryan says it seems really resource hungry, so it slows your computer down.

Hey Michaela, I used Avast for a year or two, and to be honest... you kinda get what you pay for. :p

I agree with Dawn/Ryan - it slows down your computer. I found that it runs like a dog for scanning your drive. You should also always use it in combination with spybotand adaware like dawn said. This was like 5 years ago though, so I'm sure they've made improvements in that time??

I am really happy with my Symantic... it's $30ish a year and I have been virus free for the entire time I have been using it... but had to reformat my computer once or twice in the time I was using Avast (at the time it wasn't exactly catching everything.... but like I said.. this was like 5 years + ago).

;)
