I have a friend up in NY by apple trees. Can I have her just rip off some branches and mail them to me and good to go....or is it like pine cones? Needs to be baked or only certain parts of the tree are ok?

I have heard it both ways... But I think if you know there are no bugs in them and no pesticides, all you would need to do is rinse them off.

Ok, from an old post by Amy (undergunfire), whose neighbor had a bunch she was giving away: "You will just need to bake them in the oven to sterilize them.
