Now, this is something I've not seen discussed on here, so I thought it'd be neat.

My husband has been talking about his forever and since by next year, everything will be HD, he figured may as well do it now-if he could get a deal. Problem was, they only offer the new customers the free stuff:grumpy:. So, hubby calls them up and since he's been a customer since they first came out, guess what? *Snicker* We got the new receiver-free ($199 value), the cost of the HD service-free for one year (Normally $9.99 a month), the best cord for true digital, HDMI-free (normally about $79-80) and...what the heck, they threw in Starz, TMC, and Showtime-free for three months. I cannot believe how he lucked out...:bunnydance::dancingorig:. Didn't even have to argue or anything:shock:. Oh, and the thing will show on the screen who's calling you if you have Caller ID:p (Sas, if you happen to see this...might be a solution from the talking phone. Not sure if Directv is in Canada though:?.)

I didn't really care about the HD part of it, the tech said he's noticed women don't really, so it must be a guy thing:dunno. But is nice.

Hubby is playing Golf in the Game Lounge now, he just discovered it's free this weekend:yes:.

And just to note, whenever we've had an issue, which is hardly ever, we usually get something free out of it:D.

So, anyone else? (Feel free to complain about Cable:p.)

Oh, and just had to mention, we already had two smaller dishes on the front of the house (one for regular satellite, one for local channels, which just came available about a year ago). Today they installed a new, bigger one (5lmb) and just left the other one up, so now it looks like our house is gonna fly away having three:laughsmiley:.

That is a sweet hookup! We have Cox Digital Cable...is digital the same as high def? I should research this today, seeing as how I'm Jewish and it's easter, AND I have strep throat. :grumpy:

But, to todays credit, the weather is absolutely beautiful. Clear blue skies, a slight breeze, and bright sunlight. I might just go kick it out by the pool and do the research in the comfort of the sun.....

Thanks for the idea, AnS!

Right now we have Comcast with the DVR service. DVR is awesome, sometimes I don't know how we ever survived without it. We don't have an HDTV though:(.

My understanding is that all broadcast TV is going digital (instead of analog) next year. If you don't have cable or satellite will need a digital converter box. So that doesn't mean that everything will be in HD. However, the amount of HD content is certain to increase.

Comcast isn't bad, but I want Verizon FiOS in the worst way - mostly for the internet service. Though I hear their TV package is quite good as well. But our township is being rediculous and won't let Verizon lay the fiber cables. So I guess FiOS is an impossible dream:?.

I know, Tracy, very sweet hookup! Also, omg, please feel better soon. I know when hubby had that not long ago, he said it was bad. You poor thing:hug:.

And, no digital is not the same as HD. It's funny, the news people were complaining about going HD cuz you can see every imperfection, haha. We were watching it on local before we got his and man, check out a golf course in high def:shock:.

Matt, yes, it will be going digital, and yep, most companies are adding more channels to HD. You should start researching the HD tvs, you'll love it, since it's a "guy thing":p.

My mom has stupid Comcast now, and she just told me today (while over for Easter) that when the power goes out, she loses everything off her DVR:shock:. So, she's lost everything 3 times, that is just ridiculous! So, besides the fact that she's paying out her butt for it, she's going to Directv this week! I've been trying to talk her into it for months:). It'll cut what she pays now in half!

Matt, let me know if you have any questions regarding the tvs. Hubby has done alot of research, for months;).

Thanks for the replies, guys! This is fun:biggrin2:.
