Any way to tell what kind of Lop this is?

My neighbor found this rabbit in her yard, she thought it was mine and put it in my rabbit run with my Belldandy (female). They were together for about four hours before I found at and took them both to the vet to make sure of their sex. He's a boy :(, now I feel bad because they were snuggling each other.

He's 2x the size of Belldandy (mini lop).

Here is a close up of him, he's quite a handsome boy.

Here is a pic of him next to an average sized cat box (if that helps with size comparison)

Thanks, that's what I thought.

Yeah the neighbor apologized and if it were my lost rabbit I would have been grateful. :)

Mistakes happen now she knows I only have one (well maybe) LOL.

Look more like a French Lop to me. Especially based on the size. Holland Lops are smaller than mini lops.

Since he is so much bigger than she is, there could be issues if she is pregnant. Did the vet comment on if he looked neutered or not (should be able to see the testicles if he is)? I would try to get Belldandy in for a spay ASAP. It would be easier to spay her before any kits get too big and probably a bit less expensive too. If she is pregnant, the kits could be too big for her to deliver and it could require a c-section.

Well good news, Charlie belongs to our neighbor across the street. He said he was a Pure bred Holland lop. No he wasn't fixed. We're still calling around for prices about spaying, the vet that confirmed he was a boy quoted us $313 to fix Belldandy.

If he is 2X the size of your mini lop than he isn't a holland lop, Hollands are smaller than mini lops. If he is a French Lop than they probably didn't breed , judging from his size he is still too young.

He's adorable. I would say a French Lop too.

My question would be why was this rabbit loose in the first place? I would assume their are preditors in Ohio that could get a loose bunny.

Susan:?

Our neighbor is elderly and can't walk very well. The back door was ajar and it got out. I took him back about 2 1/2 hours ago and the neighbor was very happy to have his buddy back. I let his care taker know she may want to invest in a baby gate :)

Definitely is not a Holland Lop, way too big. The owner might be mistaken; it looks like a French Lop to me. Very cute but as with everyone else I have concerns about her having a pregnancy by a buck that is so much bigger than her. Good Luck!

No, your neighbor is definitely wrong. Holland Lops are the smallest of lop breeds and are 3-4 pounds. Perhaps somebody told them this and without experience your neighbor believed it. I would get your bunny spayed ASAP or she could die!

Thanks for your help, I'm looking into having her spayed. Just trying to find a place that isn't going to charge me $300 to do it.

That seems to be the hardestpart haha. I've looked into getting my pet buck neutered at several different places but the lowest I've found isabout 250 and more for a spay :rollseyes

Good luck! I hope everything works out!

Thanks. :)

Anyone know if Belldandy is pregnant and has the buns, would we be able to keep one of the females with no problems (aggression wise) since they've been together the whole time?

Also should I bring her back inside (same temp as outside) 80-90 and should I let her just nest in her cage wherever or provide a box for her to nest in?

We keep the last set of females together from my daughter's rabbit's last litter and everything seems to be working out okay. Think it depends on the breed. Hers are holland lops (2-4 pounds)? Too bad you can't bring your rabbits here to be neutered. $151 with taxes for males, around $200 for females. Just had Benjamins nails cut by the technican at the vet because at 14 plus pounds he is just too much bunny for me to do by myself. $15 including taxes. If it is as hot in the house as outside, I would personally leave her where she is. Anyway of cooling her cage down with a fan or ice bottle?

I could probably do an ice bottle, I often put a shallow wide bowl in her cage which she likes to get into. I try to keep some water in the fridge for her so she has cold water to play in.

Is it normal to be nervous? Do you know how soon after conception I'll be able to tell if she's actually pregnant. Also since being outside she's lost interest in hay, will she start eating more of it if she is pregnant?

I would definitely suggest that you contact as many rescue groups as possible to get spay/neuter references. Often they will be able to connect you with low-cost services that are DEFINITELY less than $300!

you or a vet can palpate at 14days. Eating habits usually depend on the rabbit. Most will fast a day or two before kindling. But everyone is different

EDIT: Agree on French Lop I didnt even have to read your description All I saw was the picture. Then was assured when you said it was 2x the size of your mini lop
