I have a couple coins that i'm looking to find the value on, and i thought i'd ask on here.

Coin #1. i think it's a silver dollar.

side 1-LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, 1923. it has a picture of a woman on it with a large, spiky head piece.

side 2-UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E. PLURIPUS UNUM, ONE DOLLAR, PEACE, a picture of a eagle.

Coin #2. a tad smaller than the first one.

Side 1- PISO, 1, Jose RIZAL, a picture of a young man.

Side 2-REPUBLIKA NG PILIPINAS, bangko sentral, 1974. it has what looks like a coat of arms with a lion and a eagle, a sun(i think)and three stars.

thanks for the help!

We collect some coins ;) Your Peace dollar is probably worth about $13.00!

I have the 2008 US Redbook that lists all the coin values. The value of the silver in the Silver dollars is currently at about $13.00. Some of the very rare Peacesilver dollars sell for around $75,000.

What's the general condition of your coin? Where do you see the most wear marks? - wear is a major determining factor in the value of a coin.

What's the mintmark? You'll find a letter under the word "one" near the Eagle's tail. "D" for Denver mint, "S" for San Francisco mint or no letter for Philly mint. The number of coins minted and where they were minted minted also determines value. The San Franciso gem uncirculated Peace dollars are worth over $7,000!

Philly minted the most Peace silver dollars in 1923, so they are most common and are valued at about $13.00, a little less if well worn.

Our library has an excellent foreign coin book - I'll try to remember to pick it up on Monday and get more info on your other coin.

From searching on the internet, I'm getting an indication that the Phillippine Peso you haveis probably worth no more than 75 cents.

Pam - this isn't a coin and I don't really mean to hijack this thread.....BUT...

What about a "silver certificate". I'll have to look when I go home ..... but my mom has a "silver certificate" - maybe two of them - I forget. I don't remember if they were $1 bills or $10 bills or what....but she got them in the 70's when she worked as a bookkeeper.....

They look almost like a dollar bill except they say "silver certificate" on them I think and it might be a different color? I forget the details..

The more common $1 Silver Certificates sell to collectors for under $2. Very old & uncirculated sell for much more.

Can you geta good quality photo of front and back and the year? I might be able to be more more specific on a value.

I don't know - I can maybe try when I go home to visit mom next month....

She wrapped it in saran wrap and it is in her safety deposit box....

Our local coin expertjust dropped off a bunch of coin magazines for me - The March 2008 issue has an article on the Peace Dollars. With the price of metals skyrocketing, most of the 1923's in very good condition are going for about $20.

The coin guy was going through some coins from an estate yesterday and found a Morgan silver dollar worth about $1300! He had given my son, Matthew, a Morgan for Christmas worth about $75. He also gave Matthew a lot of foreign currency because he only collects US currency.

One of my favorite coins is a shield nickle that my dad found in our garden when I was little. It's so worn that it really doesn't have anyvalue, but it's special to me ;)
