Hello all!

Happy Mothers Day to everyone and every rabbit!;) Here's my quick question...We have a Holland Lop, Ebony, who had one male and one female kit 7 1/2 weeks ago. We are keeping the buck but selling the doe:cry1:. So far they are all in the same cage and Ebony seems to be ok with them still. We have had them apart from each other for extended times(2hrs) occaisionally but they are all still put backin the same cage. Ebony has been rebred and still has 3 weeks to go. When I separate them for good is it ok to just put them in a different cage separately or should I still keep the kits together? Am I making sense?

Thanks for your help!

I am not a breeder. However, I would put them in cages near each other when you do separate them. The baby buck and doe can probably be housed together until they are approx 3-4 mo old when the male will become sexually mature. We just had a litter of bunnies at the shelter that were approx 4 mo old. All 6 were kept together in one cage (what a mess! at that age they're impossible to keep in control!) and gradually adopted out, some as singles, some in pairs. There is just one left. When a single or pair is adopted, they go home and never see the others again, and I think they are fine with this. We don't do a gradual separation of the ones that are to be adopted before we send them home.

Most breeders will move the doe and leave the babies in mums cage for another week or 2 soit doesnt stress them.

With my nethies I tend to just move the babies as they do not seem to bother about moving cages.

I would move them together for a week then split them up which ever way you do i(cage wise) so they have each others comapny :)
