Hi!

Growing up, I always wanted a bunny, but my mother said no because we had cats. Now that I'm an adult, I've decided to take the plunge and find a little guy!

I have experience with horses, cats, dogs, ferrets, birds and guinea pigs, so this is not my first pet...

Since my boyfriend has had them/cared for them before, I do have a good source of info, but I still have no idea what kind of bunny I want. Therefore, I found this place!

Ideally, we would adopt from a local shelter here in western NY, but I'm worried we'd get in over our head since this would be our first bunny. Is there a way to know if a rescue will love/enjoy us? I've had some bad experiences with shelter animals before...

What KIND of bunny do we want? Size is not an issue, color is secondary, (though a cute little black and white would be nice)...it's all about personality. :)

Let me welcome you to Rabbits Online, my name is Dave and I am a moderator on the forum. So if I can be of any help please let me know. This is a terrific website for rabbits and their slaves, not only is it very active but also friendly. I am so glad you’re here and I know you will enjoy it.

Dutch and the lops are good rabbits, pretty easy going for the most part, but each rabbit has its own personality. Generally, the larger the rabbit the calmer they get, not always but as a rule. If you go to a shelter they should have a room where you could get to know a bun before you bring it home. Good luck with your search.

If you have a sick bunny, please post in The Infirmary and include your rabbit's age, breed and health history as well diet and output details leading up to the problem.

I have listed some links I thought you might find interesting:

*For reference the Library section

*To brag or tell everyone about the antics of your bunny or just to talk about your day here is where to start a Bunny Blog, you can also look back at it later and remember when you had a life before your bunny.

*Now all the bunny’s like talk to each other when we mere slaves aren’t around in the Bunny Chat is the spot to be.

*Rabbits Online also has regional forums , this a good way to find a vet in your area that has experience with rabbits and to find out from other nearby of good sources of rabbit supplies.

The Let Your Hare Down section is for anything non-bunny related.

Here is a link tothat will help you and your bunny to connect, How To Bond With Your Bunny.

Now every forum has rules and ours can be found with this link Rabbits Online Forum Rules. This gives guidelines on what is acceptable, what is not and how we hope everyone will treat each other.

Everyone on this forum loves to see pictures of each other’s bunnies. So if you would like to post a picture this link will help you do that, How to put photo's in your posts.

I am glad you have joined rabbits online and I look forward to seeing you around.

Welcome to the forum, glad you found us!

You might want to just cruise around and look at different breeds and see what appeals to you. I love that you will adopt from a shelter as they are unfortunately overloaded everywhere.

Do you want a very small breed or med or even large? I have a Holland Lop now, who is just the sweetest little thing. I used to have a mini rex who was also gentle and lovable. You can do dates with the bun at the shelters to see how they react to you. That's the best thing, go to the shelters and visit the buns they have. You might just make a connection with one bun and want that bun. I wish you the best of luck!

Again, welcome!:D

:wave:Hi and welcome,

To help you find the right bunny..you have definitely come to the right place...

So good luck in finding that special little bun

Every bunny is definitely different. My boyfriend and I adopted brothers and they couldn't be more different! Welcome to the forum.

My biggest 'personality' buns I think have been my mini-rexes followed closely by the dwarfs.

The bigger guys are calmer. I have a Flemish boy right now who is incredibly loving and lovable -- a big, sweet, loving, happy couch potato -- and I love him to death. My big puppy!

But in terms of being expressive and opinionated, my mini-rexes took that prize. ;) Dill was a wonderfully cheerful rabbit, a bouncy, infinitely curious, happy bunny, but I remember him getting mad at me once for clipping his nail too short, he flicked me off (a very distinct bunny message), jumped on the couch, gave me a dirty look and ripped a hole in it. (And that boy could hold a grudge, he didn't talk to me for three weeks!) Now some people may not find that entertaining. ;)

My dwarfs, who may be considered zippy, pushy and high-strung, are also ridiculously intelligent and entertaining as all get-out in my book. (Lots of people will agree that the dwarfs have personality, but then you here them mutter, 'yeah, all bad!' under their breaths). ;) But I have to say my dwarfs are the smartest -- in terms of calculating, problem solving, catching on to things, etc, and they're the most bonded to me. They're easy to handle and they live a long time.

So I guess its up to your definition of 'personality'.

And I'm sure other slaves will have their own opinions.

Welcome to the forum.

I have a male dwarf and a holland lop.

My dwarf is my heart bunny. He is very special and personally I love his little dwarf attitude he may not like to show it but he loves me.

My holland lop is new. So she is still a little unsure of her new world. But I can tell she is feisty and want to be loved on so bad but just not there yet.

I hope you find your new bun and good luck to you both
