I started my animal diploma today. I really didnt no what to expect when I first went in. We spent the first half of the day filling out forms *Yawn* Then we finally got a look round. I was quite impressed, they have a massive mammal, extoic and aqatics section. I tried taking a few pics of the rabbits, all the animals seem well looked after apart from them:(I meen they look ok and get fed and waterd, but no one really tends to spend much time with them, I meen when you have the choice of playing with chinchillas, parrots and snakes who'd want to play with a couple of dumb old rabbits? There's a beautiful black rex there and I was so tempted to take him home with me. I start my first real lesson next tuesay, my first is animal biology. Il upload the photos in a bit. :biggrin2:

Sounds great!! I am sure you'll give those rabbits plenty of attention.

What exactly is an animal diploma? Is it after high school? How long does it take to achieve?

Ok Im not sure how the whole schooling system goes in the U.S. But when your 15-16 here (year 11) you leave school and can stay on at college or get a job. Ive chosen to stay on and Im doing a national diploma in animal management (thats equiv to 3 A Levels, that get you into uni) Hope that made sence?:?Anyway its really good but really hard, the science side of things is complicated.

This is the kind of shortnd version of what I'l be studying:

You will study the following core modules: * Specialist Project Study * Business Management * Principles of Animal Science 1 * Principles of Animal Science 2 * Nutrition * Practical Animal Handling and Husbandry * Industrial Experience *Breed Development and Welfare, *Animal Behaviour, *Breeding, *Exotics, *Animal Nursing, *Aquatics, *Management of Exotics, *Wildlife Rehabilition and Management, *Working with cats and dogs, *Customer Care, *Animal Health, *Microbiology Biochemistry

Ok, I see. Wow, you guys get done with your grade level schooling about 2 years earlier than we do here in the US! It sounds like what you are taking is similar to getting an A.S. (associate of science) degree here. Am I correct in thinking this is a 2-year program? We call that Community College of Junior College over here. And then you go on to a University if you want to?

I just graduated with my B.S. (bachelors of science). It is a 4-year program at a University. I got my degree in Animal Sciences. I took a lot of the same classes you took!! Have fun, I really loved getting my degree and working with all the animals. Mine was in large animals, so I mostly worked with horses, cattle and hogs.
