Hi!
I recently got a French angora mix, and was wondering if any fellow angora owners have any advice regarding their specific care, I would appreciate it.

Congratulations! Very cool. Angora rabbits are so sweet. Are you going to be saving the wool? It’s not hard to take care of their coat if you do it regularly. I use a set of combs, rounded tip scissors, a seam ripper, gimar clippers and a blower. I recommend working outside as the blower will remove any dead skin or hay bits and it’s quite messy but very quick and effective. Always a treat afterwards.
For ease in free ranging I recommend keeping the bunny clipped, especially around the back end.

I have been saving the wool, im not sure what to do with it but it’s cool!

Yes my bun is free range and I have noticed his droppings sometimes get caught in his fur. He uses a wire bottomed litter box to prevent bedding from forming mats. I’ve never noticed any sores on the bottom of his feet and he uses it aboit 90% of the time, so he doesn’t seem to have a problem with the wire. where we got him from he was living on wire constantly😢 How often should I be fully trimming him? The treat is the best part, he gets his highly coveted pellets!

Also, my bunny is very tiny for an angora, some of the others I’ve seen are nearly twice his size. How come?

Thanks

You can always try felting the wool just to get used to working with it. Make a hat or mittens!

Biggest issue here is that hay gets stuck in his fur around his bottom. Our two kittens are obsessed with playing with the hay and they go out of their way to spread it far and wide! I can’t even sweep it up without help! 😂

Give him a trim at least 4x year if you want to keep the wool or a little trim anytime you see that he needs it. I use the combs and blower in between to prevent mats. They seem to enjoy the blower in small doses and they love their treat of course.

Right now Shadow is only free ranging part time because the kittens are obsessed with him and his wool. They were kneading and faux nursing on the back of his neck and he would happily oblige. It was quite comical but terrible for Shadow since it was moisture on wool and matted it up immediately. Poor guy! So my hope is that the kittens outgrow the silliness so he can be free full time. No way to separate them unfortunately.

His litter box sounds nice!

I think that’s normal to get somewhat varying size bunnies from different lines. My other angora is also really small but she’s a sweet little doe and she’s great for grooming. There’s no way that she’d ever let those kittens nurse on her neck! 😂

I can imagine the kittens obsession!! 😂🤣 My dog tries to groom Coz like a puppy :)

Yeah, some people are very opposed to wire, i think wire litter boxes are fine though.

That’s really funny!! 😂
I agree that they are totally fine. Wire has its uses. It just shouldn’t be the only surface they have and as long they aren’t stuck in there all the time they will be fine. My opinion of course, everything in moderation.
