I have a pair of american fuzzy lops and was given a fuzzy holland this weekend (breeder doesn't want fuzzys) Can one use a fuzzy holland lop in an american fuzzy lop breeding program? I know the fuzzy hollands can be shown as an american fuzzy as long as they have the "look".

any american fuzzy breeders out there with any info for me?

thanks

Yes, you can use FH's in an AFL program. However, the AFL's from the FH will not be purebred and therefore, unregisterable until the FH is worked out of the 4 gen. ped.

All American fuzzy lops are is fuzzy hollands, that's how the breed got started, so yes, you can use a fuzzy holland in your program. Some of the top fuzzies I know of come from Holland lines. Although, as stated above, until the holland is completely out of the pedigree, they cannot be registered. Melinda

Also, many of the fuzzy Hollands have coats that are too soft, which is a trait you don't want to breed into an AFL line.

Opinions differ widely on crossing fuzzy Hollands into AFL lines, however there are some breeders who do it.

thanks

I will keep my 2 pure AFL in a line breeding program and try my AFL buck with the FH and keep that a separate project....untill the FH is bred out?

I will use Hollands, but not fuzzy Hollands with my AFLs. The reason is that many of the fuzzy Hollands I've seen have a smaller head, plus they don't have the fur coat I'm looking for. A short haired Holland with a big head and a compact body will give you nice offspring with an AFL...which is why I've put them together. The offspring have, thusfar, all been of nice show quality.
