I'm a bit concerned but not overly worried about this.

Zeus (6 year old NZ/flemish mix neutered male) has one eye that is gunking up and closing on him.

If you take a warm, damp washcloth and hold it to the eye and clean it off - he's fine for about another 12-24 hours.

I would be worried about that - but both Art & I are having problems with our allergies and the same thing is happening to us (particularly me). I forget what the plant is around here - some sort of cedar - that gives us problems every year.

I'm wondering if I should be concerned or just keep an eye on Zeus until this clears up for Art & I and see what is happening then.

Its only one eye....his teeth seem fine and he's eating good.....

Hi Peg,

My Benji has allergies, too. He was fine all winter, and as soon as I opened the windows this spring his eye's started running again.

Have you tried using chamomile tea for an eyewash?
It's wonderful stuff! Good for allergy eyes, eye infections, blocked tear ducts, etc.
Make a weak cup of the tea and let it cool down until it's lukewarm. Then use a compress to apply it.
Do not store the leftover tea.....make a fresh cup each time you need it.

I don't think it would be allergies, since that would probably affect both eyes, ya know? Have you tried teramycin eye ointment?

I will keep that in mind if it starts again - it seems to be over - for both Zeus...and us!
