Good luck! Should be fun and interesting. Well, maybe not fun but definitely interesting lol.

WOW! You must be truly proud of him! I hope his training goes well!

Hopefully we'll be getting out of Iraq and things won't heat up anyplace else!

Thanks, I am not worried if he goes in harms way and neither is he. When he was growing up, around 11-12 years old, wetalked about why I was in the Air Force and I told him, "There are people who want to take away our freedom and I serve to make sure that doesn't happen. There are people who can't protect themselves from countries who are bullies and to help people when they need it. Freedom isn't free son, for every freedom we have someone has died for it. I don't plan on dieing but if I have to I will (I also explained the Biblical principal that goes along with that) I serve to protect the freedoms of those who don't like the military, so they can talk about why they don't like the military."

I guess my explanation made an impact, through me and my unit he saw that the military does other things then blow things up. He saw the humanitarian aid the military provides.

Sorry for the long winded comment.

Does he know what his training will be in after basic training is over?

He is sure coming at a HOT time of the year - 98 degrees here today I think...maybe even hotter.

I went through basic in the summer, what fond memories, NOT!

After basic he will become a jet engine mechanic. I think he comes home for a few days then goes back to Texas for his speciality training.

I'll keep your son in my thoughts.

Personally, I don't really support the recent actions of the US military, in general.

However. I am very thankful and appreciative of the uniformed men and women who choose to serve their country. (I also appreciate those who were forced to serve in the past.) I hope that makes sense.

My husband's best friend is shipping out to Afghanistan in a couple weeks.

Prayers sent....:pray::pray::pray:

One of my students in the class of 2009 left to go to the Air Force Academy and he was one very excited student.

My great uncle was an Air Force colonel and his daughter was in the Marines...my cousin is a chief in the Navy and my uncles were in the Marines and Navy...

I am proud of them all... it is true that freedom isn't free.

Thank you, just remember that the actions of the military are dictated from the White House.
