I am thinking about getting a bun for mydaughter and I. She really wants one, and is at the age that she isinto helping and she is good with being gentle. She's 3 1/2. Im justwondering what age bunny to get? I was thinking a younger one, since Ihavent found any to adopt close to me and a friend has an oops litter. She was told two females and found out that wasnt true!

Any suggestions?

Hello :)

Both adult and baby have its pros and cons. We will start with baby first :)

Babies: Pros

1,) SUPER CUTE!!

2,) You can bond with the bunny earlier

3,) You will be able to watch your bunny grow up and you will know him well.

Baby Cons:

1,) When they hit puberty it is a whole different ball game, they get hormonal and sometimes can be REALLY crabby!

2,) You will have to get him neutered/spayed when they get to be 6 months.

Girls: Female rabbits need to be spayed because they can get reproductive cancer by the time they are 4

Boy: Will spray urine, they will go the bathroom everywhere to make their territory!

Adult: Pros

1,) What you see is what you get

2,) Most adopted bunnies (from shelters) are already neutered/spayed

3,) No puberty! (That’s a big one!)

Adult: Cons

1,) You wont have that baby bunny to play with and be baby cute

2,) And obviously you wont be able to watch it grow up

If you have any more questions please feel free to PM me or post again :D

Certainly, I wouldn't adopt at less than eight weeks for kits should be with their moms until weaned. You could ask your friend to handle your choice bunny a lot, which will help him/her adjust to your home when the times comes.

Mixed breeds are as good as any to "rescue" and often present less physical and health problems than do some purebred types and and varieties. By looking at the parents of your friends bunnies, you should be able to determine what size your choice would grow to. If amienable, I'd say go for it!

If your friends' kittens are older buns, that's okay too, as older buns seem to learn more quickly and are less problematic with things like chewing. Bucks seem to make better pets overall and it would be suggested that neutering in the best interests of health and the reduction of sexually induced behaviors be considered be considered in the not so distant future

Buck.

Thank you to you both! :)

I would definately have the bunny altered, whichever sex I got. I amgoing to look a little more into seeing if there are any for adoptionand if not, then will probably get one from my friend. They are socute! Solid black ones and then white and black speckled ones hehe Ilove buns.

Going to think on it a little more first.

Eight weeks is fine if you dont have any olderadoptable bunnies nearby. My son helps feed the bunnies hes 5.I dontlike for very young children to pick them up though as they may scratchthen the child drops them.bluebird
