My older Lop has an abscess from an infected tooth. He was put under today for a through exam and had the tooth removed. I brought him home from the vet about 7 hours ago and he is still very lethargic and can barely move. He is, however, making an odd hunching movement every couple of minutes. It's now 1 am here and I'm wondering if I should take him to an emergency vet. he has me extremely worried.

Did they give you anything to give him for pain?

It sounds like he may be in pain.

It could also be the after effects of anesthesia.
Some of my rabbits have acted unusual for a day or two after anesthesia.

Keep him warm and give him the metacam as prescribed.
I use a few towels, warm them up in the dryer, and keep switching them out.

If he doesn't improve, or gets worse, I'd take him to the vet.

Do you know of an emergency vet in your area?

If so, I recommend calling them.
Give them a heads-up that you may be bringing him in.

Is your bun eating and drinking? Pooping and peeing? If not, I would get him to the vet. They can give your bun more potient pain meds. It does sound like he's painful.

If not eating, I would be syringing critical care and water as well.

Keep us posted!

He wasn't doing any of the above - except pooping a viscousy jelly like substance that I have learned is a mucus. I syringe fed him crital care and water this morning and had to go to work - my neighbor checked in on him and said he didn't move an inch all day. I took him to the vet after work for some fluids, potent pain meds and some TLC. The Dr just emailed and said he's "very concerned" and thinks his condition is unrelated to the teeth. I'm beside myself. He seems to have very serious health problems every 6 months or so - to the point where he's on deaths doorstep. He was a rescue that was badly neglected and now I'm wondering if I'm prolonging what, to him, is a miserable life. I just want to so what's best for my little buddy.

I'm so sorry you and your dear bunny are having to go through this. I know it is heartbreaking to see your bunny in such discomfort.

I don't have experience with this kind of veterinary emergency so I can't advise you. Just want to send love and prayers.

Poor bunny. I am so sorry this has turned out to be such a difficult situation. I really hope he feels better. I don't know how to advise you either, but it sounds like taking him back to the vet was a good decision. But if something happens, God forbid, just the fact that you rescued him from a life of neglect has given him more joy I'm sure.

Good luck to you and Dust Bunny! :hearts

The vet called this morning saying Dusty had lost most upper body mobility over night and still was not eating/drinking or pooping/peeing. He also was not lifting his head and seemed to be having respiratory complications. The vet thought he may not make it until evening when I got off of work. I rushed to the vet and the decision was made that it was in Dustys best interest to put him to sleep. I spent about an hour with him, just laying in my arms and said my tearful goodbyes over and over. I am utterly heartbroken.
Thank you all for all the prayers, thoughts, kind words and mostly, the advice over the past three years. He was sickly but the most lovable little monster. No one who met him could ignore him. RIP Dust Bunny. I miss you soo much already.

oh I am so sorry, you did what you thought would improve his quality of life. You made the right decision for him, preventing any further struggle or pain. He is with the other bunnies, free of pain, binking and eating.

I'm so sorry you lost sweet Dusty. No one could have loved him more or tried harder to give him a good life. I'm glad you were able to spend time with him before he passed. My heart goes out to you tonight.

Rest in Peace and Binkie Free, Dusty.
