Hi fellow Rabbit-slaves :wave2
I'm new here and was actually planing on just following everybody from the sideline, but I could really use some help! I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this though?

I have two female bunnies, Aiko and Raion. Last Wednesday they both got spayed and are now recovering.

When do you think I can take them outside again, on the grass?

I'm from Denmark and here it is still a very rare thing to get your rabbits fixed, and not many people know anything about it. My vet is not at work so I can't ask him.:)

They are used to come out in their outdoor play-area everyday, and they are obviously very bored right now! They are both very energetic and as soon as they get just a little bit less exercise than usual, they go in total destruction mode:foreheadsmack:

Hope sombody can help me before they eat their cages completely :p

the recommendation for how long they should be restricted to a small space in order to recover varies between 7-10 days depending on the vet. if in doubt, I'd go with 10 just to be safe... also double-check their incisions before taking them out just to make sure that they look pretty well-healed.

my girls got extremely stir-crazy by the end of the 10 days... and I felt so bad for having to lock them up... but it'll be over before you know it :)

if they need something to keep them occupied, try giving them an old phone book or a big cardboard box - those are *great* "destruction" toys!

here's what my girls did to their last phone book:

I would think that if their outdoor play area is small enough(or you can make it smaller) that they can't do any running or jumping, then it would probably be ok. You are just trying to limit their activity level so they don't pull any stitches, cause you are giving the incision time to heal. But that doesn't mean they have to stay in one place. You will want to be careful picking them up and carrying them as well. You can also give the vet a call if you aren't sure if it's ok.

I'm calling the vet tomorrow to get the check-up apointment. I guess they will just do without the area intil then!

Oh I know:biggrin: They still have their daily playtime, just not in that area. I just feel so bad about the timing! As soon as they can't come outside, the weather obviously becomes perfect :rollseyes
Also I always try to only carry them around in their carriers. Aiko gets so nervous when I walk around with her in my arms, so I'm clicker training them both to go in the carrier, when it's needed

Thanks for the help everybody! I guess i'll just have to wait and keep making new toys they can destroy :thanks:
