We lost one of our best bunnies this morning. He was a three year old Mini Rex buck. He has seemed fine and this morning, I found him lifeless in his pen. No signs of illness (loose stool, discharge, etc.), no wounds, nothing. He was just lying there and breathing very shallow. I then noticed that he hadn't drank anything since yesterday afternoon. I took him in the house and tried to give him water by mouth. He couldn't barely lift his head. Then, an hour later, he stopped breathing. Any ideas at all what this could be? All of the other rabbits seem fine. No food changes or housing changes. I am at a loss.

Sometimes, it just happens. We watch ours very closely and try to note any changes in behavior as rabbits are so good at hiding problems. My little Dutch Girl Bonnie was fine when we left the house and was gone three hours later when our son came over to feed everyone. She was only three, never any problems at all. Our son thought she was sleeping at first, but, she wasn't.

Bunnys are very good at hiding issues, so often it can be very unexpected.
Even a Necropsy may not reveal what happened.
Could have been an infection, virus, clot, its impossible to tell.
I am sorry for you loss.
Please keep a close eye on your other bunnys. Just in case.

I am so sorry for your loss. Yes please keep an eye on the rest. Were any of your other rabbits bonded to the one that passed away?
