About 4 weeks ago my rabbit Linny had a runny nose.. We took him to the vet and They put him on antibiotics. (baytril 25) he seemed to get better around 7-9 days later but we finished the 14 day antibiotics then his runny nose was back and we took him back on about the 15th day of being sick. They said he Was a lot better but gave a second lot of antibiotics and said that he had lice. We treated his cage and they used revolution on him. His nose got better.. He is still on the antibiotics and he is still sick.. He is shaking his head in a strange way which I find very worrying. I have checked his ears and can't see any mites or anything. His eyes aren't runny or sticky. I am not sure what he has but his nose has become wet again.
Please help

hmm I'm not sure what the underlying cause might be.. You know your bunnies and if you feel like your first vet hasn't made a correct diagnosis, don't feel bad about getting a second opinion! I know dental issues and deep inner ear infections can be really well hidden as well as debilitating. How does his breathing sound?

Thx Candy his breathing is ok but he can breath heavily at times.
You read so much online it becomes possible to be many things.
I think I will seek a rabbit experienced vet.
His current vet is good but looks like he needs a specialist rabbit vet
Our vet said his teeth were good

Your bunny shaking his head could be an inner ear infection. That's what Neville had., though without the runny nose. This can turn into something serious and cause Wry Neck, which basically makes their head tilt.

I'd call the Vet as soon as possible.

I havent read the other comments but the vet could have done a nose swab culture to find out which medicine would be the most affective. For dogs a culture is done in three days.

Thanks for the replys everyone. Nice to find a place to talk & learn about rabbits.
We found a good vet at werribee last night & her opinion is they are mites & advised us to repeat revolution treatment once it has been 2 weeks since his first lot.

Linny has been kept inside away from our other rabbits who have also been treated with revolution bout a week ago.
They also show the early signs Linny.

I've been reading about mites & have learnt to brush the hair off rabbits as they struggle to clean themselves.
Also to keep the water & fresh food up to them because they can lose weight.
Anyone offer any more advice on mites ?

So glad to hear it's not an inner ear infections. Glad the Vet saw the mites.

I've never had that issue here, knock on wood, but hopefully others who have dealt with mites can give you advise on what they did to get rid of them. And keeping them gone for good.

K:)
