Sorry for so many posts! I just adopted a bunny today and was wondering why he isn't pooping in his litter box. Maybe he is a bit but mostly he poops right outside on a mat. Funny thing is he does jump into his litter box but mostly to eat hay. I did put some used litter from his box at the shelter into the new litter but I don't know what else to do.

Sometimes fully litter trained rabbits lose some of their neatness when they first get to a new home. There is a bit of an adjustment period. Most likely if he was trained before you got him he will get those good habits back without too much trouble.

Just put all the stray droppings into the pan. If he picks a different corner to do his business move the box.

Also, he could be marking his territory a little bit. That should subside as well.

Yeah, rabbits don't like change very much. So, give a week or so, but keep on w/ litter habits and encourage them. Put poos in it that he leaves. What "mat" you're speaking of? I might remove that, esp since he's "marking" it exclusively.;)

He should come around.:D

Thanks for your answers! :) He is doing better already. The mat I'm referring to is our makeshift rug so he has space to hop around. Our house has hardwood floors so we are planning to shop for some large rugs and runners for him to expand his moving space. (We took him home rather suddenly)
